Ongoing Vandalism

Seeing as the entire last page of edits to this article consist solely of IP Vandalism and the subsequent reverts, I'm going to make a request to get this page SemiProtected pursuant to WP:RPP and WP:SILVERLOCK. Lacking citations

These excerpts don't have citations and therefore seem to be the opinion of whoever is editing the article: "where he is known for his garbled speech" Intro. 1st paragraph.

Middle name

Attempts to add "Goad" as the middle name are a part of a widespread internet campaign to poke the subject. The unreliable sources used to support the joke have themselves been duped. See WT:WikiProject National Football League/Archive 19#Shannon Sharpe. Johnuniq (talk) 00:35, 19 April 2022 (UTC)

Would anyone with an opinion on Shannon Sharpe's name please first read the short discussion at WT:WikiProject National Football League/Archive 19#Shannon Sharpe, then contribute below.

The history of Shannon Sharpe is here. It shows that many IPs have edit warred to include "Goad" which appears to have been added first on 13 March 2021. One IP (67.58.241.92 (talk · contribs)) has added the name several times without discussion. They have provided the following sources in edit summaries. I have added an explanation of why these are not satisfactory.

• profootballhistory.com includes "References: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shannon_Sharpe". Wikipedia cannot use a source that relies on information from Wikipedia. That is a known problem, see WP:CIRCULAR.
• quote.org is a user-generated site—anyone could add a name there.
• facebook.com was set up by who-knows-who.
• peliplat.com is a user-generated site.
• imdb.com is a user-generated site presumably copied by peliplat.
• pulse.ng has an article about two Nigerians with an incidental mention of Sharpe—they would have copied the name from somewhere.
• sportskeeda.com is dated August 2021. At that time Shannon Sharpe included "Goad" and the sportskeeda story includes some minor background probably provided by reading Wikipedia. The only mention of "Goad" at sportskeeda is "Considering his full name is Shannon Goad Sharpe, one could say he was living up to his middle name." In other words, the purpose of adding the name is to attack the person.

Anyone adding the name without first gaining a clear consensus here (possibly with an WP:RFC) will be blocked since it is extremely likely that the attempts are WP:BLP violations. Johnuniq (talk) 07:03, 23 June 2022 (UTC)

In case you were not aware, I am drawing your attention to the above as I'm pretty sure that "Goad" is a hoax intended to attack Sharpe and all the claimed sources with that name have either had the name added by random internet users or have copied it from Wikipedia during the time that the IPs were successful in including the joke here. "Goad" is not a hoax. There is a sincere contention, given numerous sources and a marginal consensus, that this is Sharpe's middle. It is not meant as vandalism. 139.182.28.34 (talk) 00:38, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

Stats are wrong for Shannon sharpe

Are you able to view the history of the article (click "history" at the top of Shannon Sharpe)? If you experiment a bit you can see who made what changes. Undo any changes that are wrong.
