Date of death[edit]

Please note that there seems to be some question as to Watson's date of death. Some sources (e.g. The Canadian Encyclopedia) give February 1; other sources (e.g. The Globe & Mail) give February 2. Grstain 15:54, Feb 2, 2005 (UTC)

I did a search on Lexis-Nexis about this and all the reports and obituaries from the time say it was on a Sunday, and Feb. 1 was a Sunday. Ex: "Her publisher, McClelland & Stewart, said in a news release that she died Sunday at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital." & "Sheila Watson, one of the most influential Canadian writers in the 20th century, died Sunday morning at the age of 88, after falling and breaking her hip in her home in Nanaimo, B.C." So I think we can say with a reasonable degree of confidence that it was Feb. 1. Note also that in date conflicts like this, earlier dates tend to be correct because later dates are often actually the date the matter was reported or publicized. Everyking 21:42, 2 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Sounds good to me. Obviously, you just can't believe what you read in the Globe. Grstain 23:03, Feb 2, 2005 (UTC)
