Untitled[edit]

Conroy's books are fantastic. I'm especially fond of THE PRINCE OF TIDES. It's a beautifully written book.

Beach Music is by far his best work. There is so much that comes alive with that book.

I'm surprised the suicide of his brother, Tom, mentioned in the prologue to "My Losing Season" isn't included in more detail. I've added the divorce details from that same prologue but don't have enough additional about Tom to add it.

I'm not sure I know what I'm doing but I'd like to improve Pat Conroy page since I can ask the "man" directly; I know I have to base certain statements on facts, links, verifiable material. I see "The Great Santini" then "citation needed" and I wish I knew what that meant so I can provide it.

Added Description of His Mobile Childhood[edit]

I don't know why this always gets left out of Wikipedia articles of former military brats. Why don't people get this? Military brats grew up moving all the time. They are not from the place where they were born, nor are they from where they graduated from High School.

Re-Bratification of Article Completed[edit]

Key "military brat" aspects of his life have now been made clear in the "Early Life" section of article. His identity has been stolen back from the civilian world where it was being covered over.

Returning later, added section on his writings in support of efforts at increasing awareness of the military brat subculture in which he was raised.

Also (important), I noted in the article that the Introduction that Conroy wrote for Mary Edwards Wertsches book is 10 pages long. This is important so that readers will know that this wasn't just a couple-of-line endorsement of the book.

The introduction also stands alone as an independent essay, and has been distributed widely as such in the adult, or former, military brat community. Thus it counts (conceptually) as one of Conroy's own works as well (and was written solely by him, is signed by him, and is credited to him in Wertsches book).

Conroy's military brat status merely begs a more crucial question as to how he avoided the draft and Vietnam. Death section[edit]

Moved from mainspace in order to discuss as appropriate.

I do not understand WHY you accept quotation from the site https://patconroyliterarycenter.org and deny those from https://patconroy.com How can I make you believe that both sites are under MY control but why I want to quote is only on the later site. What do you want me to do to show this? Ask me to post something on all sites like "Hi Wikipedia"?? Now you'll take down this and I have to really take the page down; you also lost my annual donation by ostracizing me. AND WHO THE HECK IS BE GOODE or such who reverses everything I post? This is rhetorical since I don't believe you'd help in any way. I shall take this crap down...

Thank you User:Billcasey905 for starting this conversation. I regret that my edits led to an understandably frustrating situation for a fellow editor, and I hope this explanation helps. The article contains information needing citations, including content addressed in another user's edit, that I marked as “citation needed” in my edit of 28 December 2019. In the subsequent months, I tried to track down appropriate citations but only came up with the two websites which, as User:Michael Radulescu notes, are both under his control. This is what prompted my most recent edit of 13 June 2020, which removed the unsourced content.
