Date of birth[edit]

His date of birth is September 19, not September 9. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.61.145.197 (talk) 17:17, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Does anyone have a date of birth for Mario? —This unsigned comment was added by PeterGar (talkcontribs) .

A while back I added what I believe to be the year of his birth (based on his age) but I cannot find the date. Indeed, if anyone comes across this, please make a note of it. -- Chris 04:52, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Several online sources list Mario's birthdate as September 9, 1960. I have added it to the entry. --RolandStJude 01:50, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced Claims?[edit]

Where are the sources for the claims regarding Mario's health and sexual life? As the page is now, they appear to be unsourced.

Regarding the unsourced claims of 8-9 May, I have requested Semi-protection for this page. We can see if it's granted. --Myke Cuthbert 05:17, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When watching Batali on "Iron Chef," I've seen a noticeable tremor in this hands during closeups. If I've noticed it, others certainly have too. Perhaps this should be explained. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 76.217.52.12 (talk) 13:32, August 20, 2007 (UTC)

Is Mario gay?? I just saw him on Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy was speaking to Mario as if he was gay. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.155.166.181 (talk) 07:45, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He is married and has spawned. So no. There is some implied stuff in Bill Buford's Heat that he may be bisexual, but he may also just be very at ease with himself. --Thespian 14:46, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mario did not "helm" La Marina restaurant at the Four Seasons Biltmore Hotel. I worked in another food service capacity with him for a couple of years. He was, in fact, a sous chef at the hotel at the time. The executive chef (his superior) was female though I cannot recall her name. She, not Mario, would have been the person in charge of the cuisine of La Marina, La Perla, and the other restaurant outlets within the hotel. In other words, the ultimate menu decisions were not decided by Mario. This would imply that he did not "helm" the menu and thereby neither did he "helm" the restaurant. Jabso58 (talk) 04:00, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I finally located the name of the Executive Chef who "helmed" La Marina restaurant at the Four Seasons Biltmore Hotel at the time that the article claims that Mario held the position. Her name was Carrie Nahabedian. She was the person in charge of all menu decisions as opposed to Mario. Jabso58 (talk) 20:30, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mario's Ancestry?[edit]

Is Mario's family originally Italian? (Because the red-hair has always made me wonder.) TRCunning24.124.29.130 09:31, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

His father is Italian. His mother is not. Feeeshboy 13:10, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My mother was full-blooded Italian, she had red hair.72.78.10.225 (talk) 14:44, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article (probably mistakenly) says that his maternal side were the ones who opened the Italian food store in 1903. Is his father 100% Italian? It would be unlikely, given that his Italian ancestors have been in the country for 100 years.184.59.7.32 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 23:29, 1 December 2010 (UTC).[reply]

Perhaps unlikely, but not impossible. I know many Poles for example that only married other Poles for several generations after immigrating to the US. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.95.126.178 (talk) 18:01, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Iron Chef America[edit]

I'm skeptical about the ABC News source quoted about Batali leaving Iron Chef America. I just saw Batali on Iron Chef America with the three older Iron Chefs as well as new chef Michael Symon on the show's latest episode (Paula Deen/Cat Cora versus Tyler Florence/Robert Irvine). This article on Symon from CNN Money [1] also says that Batali is still an Iron Chef. And I'm not trusting of a source that doesn't spell Giada De Laurentiis' name correctly. THE evil fluffyface (talk) 05:13, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The 'current' season was filmed entirely before the announcement (In July and August, if I recall; actually, the current season was shot before NICA aired, which is how people found out that Symon had won). It's entirely possible that he has left the show while still being shown on seemingly current episodes. --Thespian (talk) 08:58, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Super Chef Battle[edit]

I understand that Batali is no longer officially associated with Food Network. So why was he brought back to take part in the Super Chef Battle on 1/3/10? Couldn't they have used one of the other Iron Chefs? And I missed the opening intros. Was Batali still shown on his pedestal thingee? Or has it been changed to Jose Garces yet? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.183.33.249 (talk) 18:13, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Article lead[edit]

There seems to be an attempt by some to crusade against Batali because of the sexual-misconduct allegations. While these allegations are, of course, troubling and distasteful, they are only allegations. WP:LEAD is a summary of that for which a subject is notable. He is notable as a chef, cookbook author, etc., and not for the allegations. Anyone can allege anything, and this has not risen to the level of a crime being charged ... and the standards of WP:PUBLICFIGURE (which I meant to put in the edit-summary, not WP:BLPCRIME) state that we include credible, WP:RS-cited allegations in the article, not in the lead. We don't "shame" subjects — that is a BLP vio.--Tenebrae (talk) 19:40, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
