FreplySpang[edit]

[final (47/0/2) ending 00:10 May 31 2005 (UTC)

FreplySpang has been around for 3 months and has accumulated nearly 3000 edits. Everything suggests she would make a wonderful admin. Looking at her talk page, it's filled with praise Thanks for your swift response to his edits. (in response to a POV pusher), i was nearly put off... but you were so nice about it i think i'll stick around. :-) (in response to notification of posting copyvio material), and F*** off you motherf***ing douchebag (from a vandal). Her contributions cover a wide area and she's active in both the article space and the Wikipedia: space. She's very active in vandal fighting and is always civil and courteous, even to the most offensive of vandals. Additionally, on a personal note, she's been a lot of help in testing out my vandal fighting program and has given me lots of good feedback on it. CryptoDerk 00:08, May 24, 2005 (UTC)

Oppose

Neutral

  1. Seems like a good user and a lot of the voters are people I know and trust, but as I've not encountered the user, I must reluctantly vote neutral. PedanticallySpeaking 19:22, May 25, 2005 (UTC)
  2. Same; I'm completely unfamiliar with this user (which of course is not necessarily a bad thing) and 3 months seems a little short. --Golbez 21:47, May 25, 2005 (UTC)

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
A. As CryptoDerk mentioned, I like to do RC patrol. Obviously being able to rollback user tests and vandalism would be very helpful for that. The ability to speedy-delete articles goes along with that. Also, it can be frustrating to see someone go on a blanking spree and not be able to block them.
These are the ways I anticipate using the mop&bucket in the short term, but I would be willing to pitch in on other projects as needed. Lately I have not been as active on VfD as I was a few weeks ago; as an admin I might contribute by deleting pages that have been through that process.
2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. I haven't written any long articles yet. However, I am pleased that I have been able to rescue some articles from VfD or substub-itude. For instance, boundary element method showed up on VfD looking like someone pasted in his homework -- I read some related websites and came up with a decent stub. Concrete dome is a similar case. I do plan to put together some longer articles about key topics in feminist theory and some other areas I am interested in.
I am also proud of my vandal-fighting, as CryptoDerk mentioned. Notably, when a user started impersonating other users by creating similar accounts with ells and eyes switched (e.g. User:FrepIySpang), I noticed it early on and helped to raise the alarm.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and will deal with it in the future?
A. The biggest conflict I have been involved in was the one about Jeb Bush and User:SummerFR. I started to engage with her about the copyrighted images she uploaded as well as her POV issues. Unfortunately, I soon realized that it could take up all my time, and I had to back away to make sure my schoolwork would get done. This may have come across as disingenuous - in fact, I'm sure it did, from some of the things SummerFR said about me later. On the other hand, I got my schoolwork done and maintained my Wikistress at tolerable levels. Ideally, I might have learned more about Jeb Bush in order to contribute an NPOV voice to the article, but I think I did all right. I would say this incident taught me an important lesson about maintaining perspective. The issue has never been neatly resolved, but Wikipedia goes on.
In the future, I hope to keep a reasonable perspective on the importance of any particular conflict within the greater Wikipedia project, and of course to Assume Good Faith.
