North Korean Hangul / pronunciation[edit]

I feel that I should leave a message here why they are as written in the article. Here's how the phrase "from Paektu to Halla (mountains)" is written and pronounced:

The "한라" part is written as 한나 in North Korea.
Proof: This page here writes out the aforementioned phrase.
It is however still pronounced as Halla.
Proof: Listen to the "Reunification Rainbow" song on this page. Fourth line in the song (not counting the squeaking at the beginning of the song) is the aforementioned phrase.

Additionally, I read that ㄴ + ㄴ is mostly pronounced nn but can be ll in Chinese loan words, but that's in a book... -- KittySaturn 14:29, July 16, 2005 (UTC)

Karoly.hidas 11:13, 7 June 2007 (UTC) Only one comment. "...Depending on the season, the circumference of the lake is up to 2 kilometres with a depth up to about 100 metres..." If I am not mistaking, this sentence refers to Baengnokdam which is the "Crater lake on Hallasan" (see first photo). It means that a 100 m deep lake with 4 km in diameter can be present at the very top of Hallasan. I can hardly believe that in any season this amount of water can be retained inside the crater. Please check the data, or make it clear. Thanks, karoly[reply]

The Naming section mentions all the variant names, but it doesn't explain what any of them (especially Hallasan) mean, or whether it's just an arbitrary name with no known origin or significance. --Gwern (contribs) 11:42 24 August 2010 (GMT)

Most recent eruption[edit]

Infobox says 1007 CE, article body says 5000 years ago. volcano.si.edu (cited in the article) cites (Lee, Moon Won 1982) which, if google translate and/or the OCR aren't lying, seems to state that "there is a record of an eruption in 1570". The article also cites the Veritable Records of the Joseon Dynasty, which I can't find for the correct time period in a language I can read. 07jay (talk) 23:37, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
