Does anyone know what's going on with Catherine Wheel? Still on hiatus? Broken up? New album (hopefully)?

Untitled[edit]

The band is officially "parked," but frontman Rob Dickinson has a new album coming out called "Fresh Wine for the Horses," to be released in the U.S. on September 13, 2005.

Need to disambiguate or find/link the original meaning. I notice that catherine wheel (lowercase) is a disambiguation page. The wheel I'm thinking of is a breaking wheel.

A Catherine Wheel is also a bondage implement - a large wheel where the person gets tied to the spokes; traditionally it was a torture/execution/humiliation device where the executioner would break every bone in a person's body and weave them through the wheel for display.

"The usual account of Catherine's life and death represents her as beautiful, of noble birth, and of high intelligence. When the Roman Emperor Maximus was persecuting Christians, this 18-year-old woman is said to have rebuked him for his cruelty and attempted to prove to him the folly of worshipping false gods. Maximus called in some leading pagan scholars to refute her, hoping that they would induce her to apostatize. But the little saint stood her ground so well that even some of the emperor's scholars were converted to Christianity. Furious over his failure, the emperor then had the young woman scourged and imprisoned. His wife, the empress, fascinated by what she had heard of Catherine, went in the company of the emperor's generalissimo to visit her in jail. The empress and general were also converted to Christianity by her words. Maximus therefore ordered that Catherine be tortured to death on a spike-studded wheel. At her mere touch, the deadly wheel fell apart, so the ruler had her beheaded. Her body was transported (by angels, says the legend) to Mount Sinai in Arabia. There in 527 Greek monks built the monastery of St. Catherine, which is still functioning." - http://www.stthomasirondequoit.com/SaintsAlive/id455.htm

Please note the similarities between Rob Dickinson's band name (Catherine Wheel) and his cousin Bruce Dickinson's band name (Iron Maiden). Both Catherine Wheel and Iron Maiden were torture devices. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 161.151.232.31 (talk) 17:24, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"The" Catherine Wheel[edit]

As of now, the title "The Catherine Wheel" redirects to this page. Since the name of the band is simply Catherine Wheel without a "the" in front, should the title "The Catherine Wheel" instead be directed to either David Byrne's album "The Catherine Wheel" or a disambiguation page? I'm not 100% shure, but I think I'd stick with it as is. My guess is that people entering either "The Catherine Wheel" or simply "Catherine Wheel" are looking in both cases firstly for the band and secondly for the torture device. All the other entries are just on a kind of periphery. So, I think the best hatnote to put up would be something like "This goes to here (the band); for (the restuarant, go here), and for all other uses, (go to the disambiguation page).Torc2 (talk) 13:00, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The band changed their name to "The Catherine Wheel" with the release of the album Wishville. Note the "The" in the title. 17:22, 17 October 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 161.151.232.31 (talk)
