Weights and DOB[edit]

--Killswitch Engage 00:15, 24 March 2006 (UTC)Who cut that he doesn't lift weights from the trivia? He said he doesn't on Byte this from May last year.[reply]

Only reference to DOB is here: [1] -- Rory 14:44, Jun 11, 2004 (UTC)

IMDB has a different date, July 9, 1975, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. (Of course, then the biography attached is different..) —Mulad (talk) 17:03, May 20, 2005 (UTC)

thanks[edit]

thank you User:McPhail for making my short sentence on the african american promo into a full informative paragraph. i appreciate it.

Please could we get a Better Picture of Shelton Benjamin?[edit]

The Picture currently used im my opninion is not very good. If you disagree please say thanks!

Yeah I agree, it doesnt even look like him.

I am trying to find a picture for this page. --Killswitch Engage 00:15, 24 March 2006 (UTC)Killswitch Engage[reply]

I replaced the picture with what I feel is a better one. Feel free to remove it if you find something else.

--SHodges--

== Shelton Benjamin is the only person to beat Triple H three times in a row. Shelton Benjamin in High School had a 120 wins and 10 loses in wrestling.

Is this true? I only remember him beating Trips twice, and Batista has beaten him three times...right?

Chris Benoit has also beaten Triple H 3 times. He did it at WM 20, Backlash 2004 and the Eddie Guerrero tribute.--Killswitch Engage

Benoit didn't do it in a row though,I remember him losing to HHH in a pick your poison match.Kotenks 21:17, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Shelton only beat HHH once by pinfall in a one on one match. Countouts mean nothing. Shelton only has one win over HHH. Batista has three. In fact, Batista is 3-0 vs. HHH. Benoit's triple threat wins over HHH also don't count. However, Benoit has beaten HHH five times. 1.Nov. 2, 2000 on SmackDown! thanks to outside interference from Eddie Guerrero 2.Vengeance 2004 3.Raw in July 2004 in an Iron Man Match, thanks to Eugene 4.Raw May 2, 2005 in the first round of the Gold Rush tournament, thanks to Batista 5.Eddie G. tribute

Technically, countouts don't mean nothing. However, I believe that you just established that Shelton didn't beat HHH three times in a row, and that he wouldn't be the only one to do it if he had. Thanks, -- THLRCCD 16:00, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

TY[edit]

Who removed Shelton's finishing and signature moves list? That was inappropriate.

So who removed it again?

Woops...[edit]

This page is missing Benjamin's first run with WWE. He didn't originally debut on Smackdown! with Haas, but his debut was on HEAT in singles competition. Yea The only reason most people forget his run was because of his lack of charisma and a gimmick at the time. Anybody wanna make note of that? User:Slapslapslap

Oops. Sorry guys i missed that last note in the section OVW. However i think that info should be placed somewhere else. User:Slapslapslap

Trivia section[edit]

The trivia section ought to be merged - judging by some of the entries it doesn't have much of a narrow focus. See Wikipedia:Trivia for a related essay. --Jtalledo (talk) 21:37, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why is Shelton's superkick called the "Frostkick"?[edit]

I never heard anyone call it that in WWE tv or anywhere else... Unless it was called that in OVW, i dont think it should be mentioned... Same for the "Shell Bomb"

Yeah, I don't think I've heard it called that either. --Mikedk9109 (talk to me) (watch me) 21:20, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Springboard Blockbuster[edit]

A couple of months back, I added the Springboard Blockbuster to Shelton's signature moves. He has used it several times back in 2005, especially on Heat and has used it on the 10/16/06 episode of Raw, should I add it back onto his movelist? JamX3K

Shelton Benjamin's amazing talent[edit]

Can't something be added to the page about his amazing talent. I've never seen anything like this man before. Some of the things he does, I've never seen any of the other wrestling stars do. Yet, the WWE treats him as a lower-ranked star, putting him on episodes of Heat I now even heard. Twentyboy 07:50, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is it true that he is considering leaving WWE and going to TNA because of him being misused or being treated as a lower-ranked star, or this are just rumours?

I hope you're not serious. I will miss him. He really has been misused as a lower-ranked superstar though. I would leave. Add it to the article if you can find a source Twentyboy 18:54, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This coming from a mark. Shawn Michaels himself admitted that Shelton is one of the best wrestlers he's worked with in his career. Lionheart08

I think this could actually be notable, he is very popular with the IWC and everyone agrees that he is misused. The reason that has become popular on forums is that its because of his poor mic skills. Don.-.J 16:52, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Recent Vandalism[edit]

This article has been the subject of recent vandalism. I have tried to the extent possible to fix it, but there may be other portions I have missed. Anyone who can fix this, and has more knowledge of what is true and what is false, is welcome to try. It may need to be locked down temporarily. Quidam65 15:33, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Really? I have this page on my watchlist and it only comes up about once every few days with vandalism. I revert it every time, but I don't think its excessive to the point where it needs to be protected. --  Mikedk9109  (talk)  22:19, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

When did Shelton use the Top Rope Springboard Bulldog as a finisher?[edit]

Yeah, when did he? I don't remember it being listed as one... --James Maxx 14:21, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review[edit]

1. The article is well written. However, please beware of making it clear when you are speaking "in universe". At some points, you say that he "lost a match", as though the whole thing wasn't rigged to begin with. You also might want to consider doing something more inventive with the list of his moves at the end.

2. Just about everything has inline citations and I don't see any original research.

3. Coverage of the topic is pretty broad. I'd like to see more about his life outside of wrestling, however.

4. The writing seems neutral and without bias.

5. It seems pretty stable, although it looks like you have an angry anon on the talk page.

6. Both images are appropriate and free.

I have decided to pass this article. However, please note my suggestions above. Those changes will need to be made before any FA run is to be considered.--Danaman5 04:49, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The in-universe issues affects GA just as much as FA. This should have been addressed before the article was promoted. Additionally, the lead does not sufficiently summarize the article. These issues need to be quickly addressed, otherwise I'll be taking the article to Good article review. Regards, LaraLove 05:39, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've noticed a lot of your edits actually go against the guidelines set in the Wrestling Project's style guide. I will change them back to suit said guidelines. Also, I feel the lead summarises the key points in the article quite well. Any extra information is not so notable. - Deep Shadow 07:42, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize for the edits that went against the Wrestling Project's style guide. I didn't realize it existed. Past that, my concerns with the lead and the in-universe issue remain. LaraLove 15:33, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(de-indent) I did not think that the in-universe issues were serious enough to fail the article, but I should have put it on hold first. Sorry about that. The main editors of the article should quickly resolve the in-universe issues; consider this an informal "hold" period. Also, I have to say I agree with Deep Shadow on the lead - it seems to summarize the article fairly well. What additional information do you think should be present?--Danaman5 18:50, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just went through the article and tried to address the "in-universe" problems by linking wrestling terms to their respective articles, which help explain the predetermined nature of wrestling. For example: instead of saying he won a match, it now says he was booked to win a match (with the booked link explaining that the match/win was predetermined or scheduled in advance). My only concern is how far to go with all of this. Obviously it is all booked in advance, but should that be mentioned after every match or angle? That would get redundant after awhile, I think. Feel free to further take it "out of universe" if the changes I made were not adequate enough. Nikki311 05:17, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The insistence of qualifying every result as "being booked" to do so is tedious, and in my opinion, unnecessary. The parts of any wrestlers' article that covers in-ring kayfabe accomplishments is clearly done "in character". When describing similar exploits of say, Luke Skywalker, you wouldn't say, "he was scripted to climb into his ship, and then he was scripted to destroy the death star". It's also confusing to read, because when pro wrestling is discussed, even amongst "smart" fans, such qualifiers simply aren't used when discussing match results. Thus, when someone says or writes, "He was booked to win the match", you immediately expect them to continue, "but he didn't show up that night", or some other reason why he didn't actually win the match. (i.e. there's no purpose to the word "booked" there, unless qualifying that he was booked to win, but then didn't actually win for some reason.)75.92.24.252 02:18, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It really isn't a big issue. If that's what it takes to become a Good Article...then why does it matter? In actuality, he was booked to win matches, so it's not like the information is false. It kind of is universally agreed upon that wrestling articles must be written this way to become Good or Featured Articles. Check the following Good Articles: Candice Michelle, John Cena, Rena Mero, and Kurt Angle, all of which are written the same way. Nikki311 02:33, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with 75.92.24.252. Every time "he was booked to..." appears, it is an obvious note that the sentence will end with a "but...". In the english language, when you say "he WAS booked", it means that the booking had to be changed. So when "Benjamin was booked to win the match." appears, it implies that something came up and Benjamin lost, or couldn't compete. It would be correct to write "Shelton won the match". But, you could imply at the beginning of this article in a wikibox that "The following information is kayfabe", which will assure that everything next is booked and fake.

Lex94 21:22, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, using the word "booked" so many times, is redundant. Lex94 21:23, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ECW Move?[edit]

Turnbuckle Powerbomb. And ask on a forum next time. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 23:48, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

????[edit]

His theme music appears in the ECW brand section in the article, but upon editing, it appears where it should be in the In Wrestling section. WTF? Gavyn Sykes (talk) 17:22, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. A reference was missing the trailing <ref/>. –LAX 18:00, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Paydirt[edit]

is that actually the name, or did someone make it up. because that (i think) is the name of Jamie Noble's move--L0W3R1D3R | TH3 L0W3D0WN 17:29, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's his name for it. It's been mentioned several times on ECW. Noble also used a finisher called (though it was a guillotine choke) paydirt, but that's irrelevant here. Paydirt was chosen to go along with his whole "gold standard" gimmick, I'd imagine. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 19:28, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Face[edit]

Shelton turned face before his feud with the Irish guy. Didnt he have that singing contest with Zac Ryder? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Matthewdavies (talkcontribs) 04:47, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreliable sources[edit]

Tagged {{Unreliable sources}} here. Online World of Wrestling is not a reliable source according to WP:PW/RS There might be other unreliable sources that are unnoticed by me. THE NEW ImmortalWizard(chat) 19:16, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

STATicVapor I saw your revert. However, I think it's worth the page tag since a lot of info rely on OWOW and his personal tweets. You removed one of the sources which created a citation error in ref [1]. At the very least, can you please individually tag the sources while removing my full tag? THE NEW ImmortalWizard(chat) 10:50, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It is not at all worth the page tag. The article had a few citations to OWOW I did not see due to them being tagged as OWW. Luckily the majority of them were alongside other references or in the infobox so easily removed. His "tweets" are primary sources, that does not make them unreliable or unusable. I searched the article before I removed your tag and there was no sourcing to NoDQ, WrestlingInc, ringsidenews, Sb Nation, wrestlezone, lords of pain, etc. as far as I could see so the tagging was not proper. You should try using {{unreliable source}} to tag specific bad sources. Or if they are extremely unreliable remove the ref completly and put a {{cn}} citation needed tag. If it is personal dubious BLP content you can even remove the information, but you might want to try finding a source first. StaticVapor message me! 19:04, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Why don't you do that, considering you removed the tag. THE NEW ImmortalWizard(chat) 19:07, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I addressed some of the sourcing. Your tagging of the article was inappropriate, which you haven't addressed. "You do it" is not an argument, we are all here to work together. I just removed the misleading/inappropriate tag. StaticVapor message me! 19:29, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@STATicVapor: It's quite the paradox. Now it needs more citations. THE NEW ImmortalWizard(chat) 19:23, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

FA and sourcing[edit]

The featured article criteria require high-quality reliable sources which is a higher bar than basic RS. This is an older FA from back when source reviews were lax or nonexistent. I suspect many of the sources used wouldn't pass a source review at a current FAC

  • Sportskeeda is non-RS
  • WP:PW/RS lists wrestling-titles as unproven
  • Ditto to cagematch.net
  • Inquistr is listed as unreliable at WP:RSP
  • As per the old 2019 discussion above, Online World of Wrestling should probably not be used
  • about.com is not a good source for an FA
  • PW/RS warns to only use 411MANIA for uncontroversial information; this article is using it as a source for a claim of cheating, which is problematic
  • TheSportster is probably not a RS
  • Youtube videos from random channels are not RS

Likewise, not all of the other sources may meet the high-quality RS requirement. If significant re-sourcing does not occur, a featured article review is probably necessary. Hog Farm Talk 05:39, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
