List of stations sidebar[edit]

Okay, I don't want to start an edit war - but I fail to see the need for the box. We are never going to have pages about each individual station on the line. If there are notable facts about the stations, then they can be included in this page or the page about the town/village. I mean, they're not King's Cross Station. I restored the sidebar giving the list of stations on the route, as many of the lines described in Category:British railway lines now have them. This will give anyone in the future who may wish to write an article on a particular station the chance to do so. To include the information about a given station in the article about the route goes against the many articles in Category:British railway stations. Since there is now a list of the towns served by the Far North Line, I do not see the problem with having the station sidebar - it isn't doing any harm, and provides a useful link should anyone wish to create an article on a particular station. I've replaced the sidebar again - even if we don't have a page about the individual stations I think having the overview is useful. I've taken out most of the links, only leaving what I feel to be important stations (Inverness, Dingwall (as the line splits), and three three most northerly stations in Scotland) - put them back in. Incidentally, on Firefox both on Win2k and Linux I've never noticed the sidebar and BritishMainLines box overlapping as in the edit history - not sure if that's a browser rendering problem but the markup seems ok... edd 20:55, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Huh. I just checked on Firefox, and sure enough, they don't overlap. But they do in Safari (what I use) and IE for Mac. Anyway, it's a moot point as on the current version, the infobox and the britishmainlines template are far enough apart. Anyway, it's a good compromise as it is now. Service operators[edit]

"Train services on the line are operated by First ScotRail": I guess this should read "Passenger services on the line are operated by First ScotRail". Laurel Bush 10:45, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC).

Lines meeting at Inverness[edit]

I am wondering which lines meet at Inverness. The Far North Line (and the Kyle of Lochalsh Line), the Highland Main Line, and what? Laurel Bush 09:54, 19 July 2005 (UTC).[reply]

There is also the Aberdeen to Inverness Line. Our Phellap 13:38, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I was hoping it might not be a yet to be writen article. Laurel Bush 15:08, 19 July 2005 (UTC).[reply]

Black Isle Line link[edit]

I note use of [[Black Isle|former Black Isle Line]]. The Black Isle article, however, seems to say nothing about the line. Laurel Bush 16:24, 1 May 2007 (UTC).[reply]

I suggest that the more appropriate location of the Black Isle line (and the Dornoch branch line) will be in the articles associated with the historic railways that made up the Far North Line. --Stewart 17:37, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Links in the list are generally to articles about stations and branch lines, rather than places served. I have made the Black Isle Line reference consistent with this pattern, by creating a protolink. Laurel Bush 09:23, 2 May 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Dates[edit]

Section headings give passenger operators as Scotrail 1995-2008; First Scotrail 2005-date. This implies that both were involved 2005-08. Correct or a mistake? 86.132.136.80 (talk) 14:12, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Error in section heading - dates now corrected. --Stewart (talk) 14:58, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jellicoe's Express[edit]

I have temporarily removed the claim about Jellicoe's Express. I hate putting "citation needed" in the face of articles.

The "Jellicoes" in WWI were coal trains and they didn't run from Euston! I'm working on expansion of the history of the Far North Line -- it will take me a few weeks yet -- and when I have done I will insert a properly cited statement. Afterbrunel (talk) 15:48, 11 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Mostly north of Dingwall[edit]

The intro says "The line has many sections of single track, mostly north of Dingwall."

Not sure what this is meant to exaplain. Afterbrunel (talk) 16:37, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
