Update

The section on Crossing the Divide and Automatic states that no announcement was made on the band's website regarding the release of Crossing the Divide, and yet www.vnvnation.com has it first thing in their news section on the main page. Is the aforementioned text referring to their German website? is the English one not official?

I removed this link because it only gets 28 hits on Google, which mainly look like they are only advertising the site. [1] Per Wikipedia:External links, if we are to link to any fansites, we should only link to one very major one. I left the links for VNVNation.de and the Weltfunk forums here per that policy, but ideally the external links section should contain links that are used as sources for the article's content. Continuing the genre discussion...

This comment is belated, but a few years ago I asked Ronan whether he considered himself a Goth. He replied, "I consider myself a Goth who makes Industrial music." That was, of course, before the 'futurepop' genre was coined, but it points to a central Goth strain that informs at least half of VNV's discography.LadyK 19:49, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

I think that's reasonable. Early VNV is clearly pretty goth-influenced. Over the course of their career, they could be more or less considered EBM, synthpop, industrial, goth, and futurepop. --Delirium 02:25, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

This is arrogant fanboyism. VNV is good, and not to take anything away from them, but plenty of other bands, most notably Covenant, XMTP, and ECO were already doing vocal techno and melodies over progressive trancey sounding stuff by the time Empires came out. Also this phrase sort of insults the individuality of artists who may have come after VNV, sounded similar, and yet not listed them as their major influence. agree. apoptygma for example were doing "futurepop" at the same time...but only better (in terms of production values and songwriting). paranoia and eclipse...2 futurepop club hits came out before empires was even realeased. not to mention the apop electricity remix which was massive hit in goth clubs...and that was like 97. and to be truthful the first ones to do the trancey malinchonic thing were the synthpop bands of the mid 90s. (anyone remember infinity by distain ...which was basically robert miles children with some depressed voice lol). then there was the first mesh album "in this place forever" which started to sound close to what futurepop would become...and incorporated some of the emrging uk club trance sounds-96).technically the first futurepop song was probably space divider by neuroactive -97.

having said that vnv had their own style (they have that epic-orchestral element and obsession for arpeggios that sets them apart)...while apoptygma and other bands were just emulating the sound of the charts/clubs mostly. at the end of the day most futurepop was badly produced vocal trance ....with a darker voice and feel. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.47.214.174 (talk) 04:05, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Current tour, lineup

1. They're on a 2016 tour right now, called "Compendium, 1995–2015 – 20 Years of Music". North American leg is Oct 7 to 29, according to their FB page. I'm seeing them tonight in San Francisco. >;-) First time since ca. 2001.
2. Anyone know the full live lineup? They seem to be touring as a foursome now, with a live percussionist (e-drums and acoustic cymbals), two keyboardists one of who is surely Mark, and Ronan in the front – judging from the 2016 tour promo (though that footage likely dates to the 2015 tour). Editorialising in the intro (April 2021)

I've tagged part of the introduction as "editorialsing" - I believe this section sounds more like a fan's perspective than a neutral, encyclopedic one.

As of tagging this, I'd primarily includeThe live shows are known for their energy and positive emotion, drawing a devoted fanbase from across the musical spectrum to sold out tours and headline appearances at festivals in Europe and America. I'd also include - to a lesser extent - Over the course of the project's career, VNV Nation's success has continued to grow, with its last three albums charting top 10 in Germany, and its 2015 album Resonance: Music For Orchestra Vol. 1 achieving top five Billboard chart positions in the US and some of the surrounding text as well, such as poetic and thought provoking lyrics. (I'm less concerned about that one, but in the context of the rest of the non-neutral tone, I think it does contribute. --Overand (talk)

Irish or British band?

The start of the article says that this is an Irish band (just because Ronan Harris was originally from Ireland), yet the infobox said that it was formed in the UK so really, in my opinion, that this should be listed as a British band... much like how Combichrist are of American origin even though its frontman was from Norway.
