Non-subjective. Needs rewriting[edit]

Very biased tone to this page; not subjective at all. This should be rewritten. 96.252.203.92 (talk) 20:36, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I just came on here to say that this is one of the most absurdly over-detailed and unencylopaedic Wikipedia articles I have seen. Yes, McGowan gets occasional press and media coverage for his stunts, but it needs to be proportional. The article on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is about 6,000 words, this article is 12,000! This article should be similar in length and depth to the article on Ben Going (I tried to find another YouTube Vlogger and stunt artist who had a similar number of subscribers). We should remember that the top YouTubers have reach often hundreds of times greater than McGowan. The lede needs to be cut down (the second paragraph sounds almost like promotional material for him, and there is no need for details of all of his many stunts and protests, especially not at the current length Qyburnstein (talk) 15:42, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Lunatic?[edit]

His support of Jade Goody is indefensible. His desire to burn an effigy of Shilpa Shetty should be seen as inciting racial hatred. I think he uses controversial issues to get on TV. He is an attention whore. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.145.242.20 (talk) 13:08, 19 January 2007 (UTC). U muppet. He's not a Goody fan.[reply]

The YBAs are like Mark McGowan noted for using shock tactics and for using the media. Many of them have been associated with Goldsmiths college. Their work is mostly conceptual and deals with popular themes so I think it valid to associate Mark McGowan with the YBAs even though he was not one of the original YBAs who exhibited at the Frieze show

What you're both missing is that he is a twunt.

Twunt! What a fantastic word - and absolutely perfect for McGowan. Sadly, I think WP has a policy on labelling living persons as twunts (though it would be cool:`"This subject of this article has been identified as a twunt") and if it doesn't, some po-faced admin would come along and invent one as soon as we tried to use it. Mind you, he is identified as a "performance artist", which I think most people will consider synomymous with being a twunt anyway.Bedesboy 11:08, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

about his birthday[edit]

does anyone know his birthday and birthyear?I think it is an important information.Thank you!--58.177.113.140 15:00, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know, but if you take a look at his website, it provides an email address and phone number (UK, presumably) in case you want to contact him. It wouldn't be surprising if he was born in 1974, given that this appears in his email address. --David Edgar 11:18, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

still needs improvement[edit]

When I first came to this article it was but a few sentences; I was quite surprised since McGowan's YouTube channel has four million views and clips from it are being shown on national television and are getting into the tabloids with more frequency. I believe I've brought this article up to something up to, or at least resembling, a proper encyclopedic article. I've added a wealth of information (hopefully mostly accurate, since collated from a wide range of sources) and referenced my additions, and made the headings and sub-headings as appropriately and as presentable as I could. There is still a lot of room for improvement in the article however, and there are some things I'm sorry to say I just ain't too good at on Wiki... for example adding some relevant images, a proper top infobox, ect... Anybody wishing to help me out on this, contact would be welcomed, or you could just do it yourselves. Thanks! Jimd (talk)

Orphaned references in Mark McGowan (performance artist)[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Mark McGowan (performance artist)'s orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "timeout":

  • From !WOWOW!: "Peckham art squats", Time Out, 8 May 2007. Retrieved 5 January 2008.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 16:10, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion Of This Article[edit]

This is a very long article about an individual who is not Wikiworthy! Poorly referenced article, mostly to youtube videos and unreliable sources. Only a couple of v.old (10yr) BBC links, but these only discuss one or two publicity stunts - stunts like this are fleeting and are specifically not to be used to create wiki entries. This guy is a very minor youtuber - again there are source requirements for youtubers to gain entries which he doesn't meet. I propose deletion. - Phazakerley (talk) 14:20, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Too much detail[edit]

I'm not sure if, as another user suggests above, this person is actually not notable enough for an article, but this article certainly goes into far more detail about him than seems to be justified. This is ultimately a biography of a fairly minor artist and prankster, and there's simply no need to provide information about every single one of his stunts. Wikipedia isn't meant to be a comprehensive list of everything, but should cover subjects in the level of detail appropriate to their importance. This article needs some serious shortening. I've added the {{overdetailed}} template. Robofish (talk) 22:21, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've made a start to reduce the absolutely massive amount of self-cited detail (i.e. cited only to his own videos). At the moment it is so obsessively long it does a disservice because no one in their right mind will attempt to read it. I'm quite sure he's a notable artist and no doubt there is more news coverage out there somewhere that can be used instead of his YouTube pronouncements. Sionk (talk) 01:38, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This article is absurdly detailed for someone who isn't too noticeable. I think it could be either drastically cut down or deleted.WikiSpaceman2000 (talk) 07:53, 23 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I believe McGowan is notable. He has received significant media coverage. I, and I imagine other editors would as well, strongly oppose deletion. AusLondonder (talk) 08:03, 23 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Brex**it the Movie[edit]

In 2017 Mark launched a crowdfunded project to make an anti-Brexit Movie as an antithesis to the original Brexit Movie that was put out before the 2016 EU Referendum. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.27.207.47 (talk) 15:25, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Far too long[edit]

I know this has been said before on the talk page but I don't understand why there is so much unnecessary detail here. It's double the length of the J. M. W. Turner article which seems a little disproportionate to their respective notability. If I have time I'll come back and try to do some trimming but I don't have a lot of editing time. If someone else gets there before me they'd be welcome! 62.6.208.109 (talk) 10:17, 24 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
