Where was dan born?[edit]

According to the book by Rob Dunn, "Every Living Thing," Dan was born in Minneapolis (Edition 2010, Pg. 87). I'm not sure who is correct here but its worth taking a look at; I myself wouldn't know where to find the correct info. so I hope an editor can check.

  • There is another Daniel H. Janzen, born in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, on March 25, 1906, who served in the Fish and Wildlife Service. Daniel Hugo Janzen is the father of Daniel Hunt Janzen, 1939. Mary Mark Ockerbloom (talk) 16:09, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • In an interview, Daniel H. Janzen confirms the Milwaukee location, so presumably Dunn had it wrong, possibly as result of confusing the two generations. Daniel Hunt Janzen states "I was born in Milwaukee in Wisconsin, United States, on January 19, 1939. My father was raised in a Mennonite farming family in the northern part of the state." In Green Phoenix (by William Allen), page 134 (hard copy) he writes: "The capacity for such discernment, such intuition, also was the foundation for her contributions to the Guancaste project....." next paragraph "There were many dimensions to Hallwachs's contributions to the conservation project. Foremost was her intellectual role, played out largely as she Janzen batted around the ideas. 'We do these things together,' Janzen said in a 1996 interview when I asked him to describe her contributions." This discussion continues for a few more pages, to 136, where it describes how she put her PhD on hold to get the ACG project going.

I would also point out that almost every single publication lists her as the 2nd author, and many interviews talk to BOTH of them, not just Janzen. "Democratizing Taxonomy" by Marguerite Holloway, published in Conservation in Practice April-June 2006, pages 14-21. Perhaps this should be mentioned because it is said by Altieri in his Agroecology textbook to be the "first widely read evaluation of why agricultural systems might function differently from those of tropical zones":
