campaign for american television appearances[edit]

I'd like to give a big Thanx from the Bronx to all you nice people who are fellow SOS fans like me! Many SOS fans will be viewing this page and it is important to keep as much info available to all fans. Japan-only?[edit]

Under the album description for "The Living Return" it mentions the album "Live at the Jazz Cafe" as a Japan-only album.

However under "Filth and Dreams" and the album listing at the bottom of the page, they state that Filth and Dreams is the only Japan-only album. Sounds like there should be a correction somewhere. Kwyjibear 05:22, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

YouTube Videos of SOS[edit]

I just visited youtube.com and searched Swing Out Sister and found many SOS videos still active.

Either their server went down or new videos were posted in their place.

It is not legal for us here at Wikipedia, as Jimbo Wales lawyers have already pointed out, for us to host copyrighted images or videos.

It is sad to see that these videos could not stand the test of time here.

I dont know, maybe you could ask permission.

I started this article here at Wikipedia in December 2004 and am happy, with how it has been so much improved.

I'd like to voice my personal appreciation to those, who have done so much to help.

Swing out sister <> everything but the girl (?)[edit]

I guess I should play my CD's more often. For a minute there I thought Swing Out Sister was the same as Everything but the Girl.

Sad that I rarely see CD's of either group for sale in US/Canada.

I've actually got It's Better To Travel and Kaleidoscope World (and Acoustic and The Language Of Life by EBTG).

POV & Unreferenced[edit]

This article is almost completely without any references, except for dubious YouTube link(s). Equally it is full of opininated, unsourced claptrap. Here is one such paragraph: "For this record, SOS adapted to the growing popularity of hip-hop in the late '90s. "Who's Been Sleeping" kicks off the record with an aggressive beat and a few hip-hop flourishes (such as Drewery's counting and uttering "Yeah..." in the background.) The rest of the record incorporates such sounds a bit more subtly, through the soaring retro stylings of "Closer Than the Sun" and "When Morning Comes" to the excitable lounge of the title track to the mid-tempo trip-hop of "Invisible" and scratch-laced "Sugar Free." Traditional SOS sounds are challenged successfully with the darkly dreamy "If I Had the Heart" and "Make You Stay." Background noises, from telephone conversations to child's play, also enrich the record and give the listener much more to cue in on. Drewery strays out of the usual love lyrics and colors a portrait of a darker world (as the title indicates) by singing about more urban subjects such as drugs (the eerie "Happy When You're High") and prostitution ("When Morning Comes")."

Fancruft bollocks at its best (or worst, whichever way you look at it). The whole piece needs some serious editing and referencing to bring it anywhere near encyclopedic staus. Can anyone make a start ? Many thanks,

Filth and Dreams?[edit]

The article claims the Filth and Dreams album "is probably the strongest SOS outing to date" How is this opinionated statement justified, particularily as this album is highly untypical of the groups music?

Whilst based on a restricted audience, the Filth and Dreams album appears to be the least well liked album see: this forum on the official site

Quotation versus Sample[edit]

In the main page: "which featured a sample from the John Barry score from the film Midnight Cowboy." - as far as I can hear, it's not a sample but is a similar descending phrase, ie. it's not an audio sample / clip from Midnight Cowboy, but is a performance including the harmonica solo which quotes the MC theme, which is then echoed by the strings and (?) vibraphone subsequently, in the playout. Over 3 years has passed since the POV was first questioned and this entire entry still sounds like the gushings of a big SOS fan. This is NOT a fansite. And even more shocking is someone questioned why the "Neutrality thingy" (their words) was on this page? The entire article reads like a slimy promo piece. I just removed two obvious pov adjectives, but the entire article needs to be drastically reworked, and I just don't have the energy. TheScotch (talk)

Martin Jackson did not play for Frank Zappa[edit]

This extraordinary false claim has been in the article for 17 years, since it was first created. The Martin Jackson that played on Frank Zappa's London Symphony Orchestra albums is a cellist with the London Symphony Orchestra, not the drummer from an '80s pop band!
