Fair use rationale for Image:ZvartnotsAirport logo.jpg[edit]

Image:ZvartnotsAirport logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Addition of Russian name in regards to the former Soviet Union[edit]

@Lainjahno: Re: this edit

The article should still contain the Russian as that was the reality of the era, even if people living back then disliked it. I am aware Armenian was spoken among the community during the Soviet period, but the language of education, administration, and media of the USSR was Russian, despite the fact it was not made official until circa 1991.

What I can do is make it a footnote so the information is not prominent, but is still available in the article for people who are interested. That makes it clear that today the language is Armenian, not Russian, but in the past the working language was Russian. WhisperToMe (talk) 03:58, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

-- Although I understand your logic, I think that it would be best to avoid taking that step, as Armenians are still pretty hesitant about fully accepting the Russian language (A proposal to make Russian an official language in Armenia became a huge scandal a few years ago). Doing so would also mean that we would have to add the Russian language to all ex-soviet union airports. In general I believe that we should just use English and the current official language in the country, (or else we would have to add German to the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol page for when it was under Nazi occupation). I hope you understand my point! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lainjahno (talkcontribs) 07:08, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the response! While I understand that there is hesitancy for the use of a language by a former government, there are some notes:
1. I would indeed intend to add Russian to any airport that existed in the Soviet Union at the time, but under a footnote and with a disclaimer that this only applied in Soviet times.
2. There is a difference between the Nazi occupation of Amsterdam and the tenure of Armenia in the Soviet Union; the former was during a war, temporary, and was not recognized by many nations. In the case of the USSR it was internationally recognized as holding sovereignty over those territories for decades, from the 1920s (or 1940s in the case of the Baltics) until 1991.
3. Interestingly some places in the Pacific do note the Japanese names under occupation, but in the history section, et al. For example: Antonio_B._Won_Pat_International_Airport#Military_use noted that the Japanese built the airport and its initial name. In the cases of temporary occupation just putting the name in the history section would be fine. For the Soviet Union I'd give more prominence than that, but not full prominence like the current name (especially in regards to the Baltics).
4. Many Central European cities and former Ottoman cities note former names in German, Greek, Polish, etc. as they had changed hands historically.

BEFORE DELETING AIRLINES AND DESTINATIONS[edit]

Before you delete an airline and destination, make sure to visit Zvartnots.aero for the official list of flights departing and arriving. Because many flights around this season are charters, they do not appear in a gds or on airlineroute.net. HOWEVER, these flights are indeed operating, but do not appear because they are being chartered by individual tourism companies. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lainjahno (talkcontribs) 01:11, 7 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

RYANAIR FLIGHTS TO ARMENIA[edit]

RYANAIR IS NOT Flying to Armenia at the moment. Ryanair is not selling tickets to Armenia, and Armenia does not even appear on the destinations/future destinations list. Nobody knows if/when Ryanair will start flying to Armenia. Any advertisements/publications about Armenia are irrelevant if there is no confirmation of flights beginning (with specific dates) either from Ryanair or the Armenian government gdca.am. The airlines and destinations page must show flights that are occuring or that are planned to begin (WITH SPECIFIC DATES) from official sources. Posting Ryanair flights to Armenia and saying that they will resume in 2021 is misleading information since there has been no official announcement that flights will resume this year. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Futbolazo (talkcontribs) 18:22, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not a directory - entries in Wikipedia do not need to represent up-to-date accurate information just verifiable information of an encyclopaedic level. It is a referenced fact that Ryanair has served Armenia in the recent past, it is also reasonable to assume this will happen again - just leave the entry there as it is nobody cares (or should care) that this is not currently running due to the current covid situation. The existence of the destination tables has been questioned as to their appropriateness in an encyclopaedia on several occasions, it is discussions like we are having here that will eventually (and maybe quite rightly) drive this detail from Wikipedia's pages. Andrewgprout (talk) 01:51, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The airlines and destinations table is intended to be be up to date and informative, or else it wouldn't perform its function. It is not a table of historic routes, but rather routes that are currently served or will be served in the future with exact dates of when they begin from the airline itself or a trustworthy source. Of course it is reasonable that Ryanair may fly to Armenia soon, but neither you or me know when that will be, so putting it on the list and saying it will return at a given date or year without official proof confirming the date is pure disinformation.
All of your excuses are WP:OR - Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia not a directory that negates most of what you say. We have a referenced fact and you are deleting it. Andrewgprout (talk) 06:39, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Andrewgprout. Still see no valid reason to exclude Ryanair from the list. Archives908 (talk) 13:12, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm just leave it here :)):

The airline doesn't have to announce termination of flights. At the moment it is not selling any flights to Armenia, because Armenia does not even appear on the list of countries it flies to (or is planning to fly to), therefore that link you shared is a)outdated and b) not applicable to the current situation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lainjahno (talkcontribs) 00:42, 25 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, but that link it's not outdated. It also published December 7, 2020. Corner2002 (talk) 15:53, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
