  • It would be interesting to know more about Gates's background, writings and role in the party, not just is disagreements with the CPUSA under difficult circumstances. A large group left the Party in 1956, not all went to the Right. Where did the rest go? DJ Silverfish 20:31, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

As John Gates was editor of the Daily Worker, his writing are extensive, although they may not all be signed. I am the original author of this article and based the article mainly on his resignation in 1956. There is an autobiography from 1958 which sells for not much which could be used to expand the article. I know nothing about his history after that but it should not be assumed he suddenly became a conservative. It is pretty sure, however he was not part of the group which left in 1956 due to what they saw as a turn by the Party to revisionism. I am somewhat interested in the questions you pose, but have many other things to do. I would welcome additions to the article which flesh it out although I don't have time to do it myself. The Autobiography and the Daily Worker morgue, if it exists, are obvious starting points. Fred Bauder 14:35, Mar 30, 2005 (UTC)
