Changed term of area because c.75,000 sq mi does not equal 194,250 sq km. If some one knows.... L-Bit 11:43, 21 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Needs provinces[edit]

This article needs a list of the provinces that make up the region. Badagnani 13:17, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Making it sortable[edit]

I would like to make the table sortable--that is, one can click on it to arrange it in alphabetical (and reverse) order, in order by area (increasing and decreasing), in order by population, and in order by density (ditto, ditto).

Unfortunately, the way the table is set up, with two columns below one, makes that trick not work properly past the area column. I found out that the trick used to set up this table--colspan--does stop sorting from working past the colspan column. There's a work-around, but it involves this complicated coding that would take me forever to learn (something called CSS--you have two columns, but you hide one and expand the other to the size of the two, or something like that).

I'd still like to do it. The simplest way would eliminate the double columns. The metric and English values would still show--with captions. So under area, it would show km2 first, then sqmi in parentheses, in one column. Population density would be similar.

Any objections? Uporządnicki (talk) 14:19, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Someone's sloppy Cambodian edits[edit]

Someone has rather crudely and clumsily stuck some words into the table of the provinces. I was able to gather that these words might be Cambodian language names for the places. Assuming that this information belongs here at all, it needs to be done with a little more care; some attention to formatting, rather than just running it all together, and something to tell the reader what's going on.
One of the ways I figured it out is, the same IP User has been doing similar things to other articles. While sometimes s/he has made it clear what s/he's doing, all the edits tend to be clumsy. In fact, in the article on Phu Quoc, s/he jammed in the Cambodian name in such a way that it presents the Cambodian name as Vietnamese and vice versa. Province Table - sorting glitch[edit]

The population column sorts on the name of the province, not the population. The reverse sort also sorts by the name of the province (ABC) except it puts the first in alphabet at the bottom - BCDE...YZA). The construction of this table is too complicated for me to edit. Can someone else address this? And is it really necessary to include both miles and kilometers (which greatly increase the complexity of this table)? Jd2718 (talk) 14:33, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I identified a coding error and fixed it. I don't know if it's done in the ideal way, now, but the population table does sort correctly. Although I might have set things up differently (a single column with conversion, rather than two sub-columns), I'm in favor of liberal use of both metric and English measures in the English Wikipedia. Vietnam uses metric. But it's not unreasonable to suppose that a large proportion--if not the majority--of users of the English Wikipedia are people from the United States or England. (I haven't forgotten Canada, but just compare the numbers.) Uporządnicki (talk) 17:09, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Some edits--geographical feature, versus semi-official region[edit]

Recently, I reverted an edit by one 2405:204:A703:146:D1:E760:F6BF:8A92, and ClueBot NG reverted one by one Ashran2021. Unfortunately, ClueBot also suggested that Ashran's edit was vandalism, which it was not. Both edits were awkwardly done, but both also had a valid objective.
This article somewhat carelessly deals with two related but distinct matters: the semi-official statistical region of Vietnam itself, called (in English) Mekong Delta on one hand; and the geographical/geological system of distributaries of the Mekong River into the South China Sea on the other. The statistical region does more or less coincide with the river system. But the river delta system does begin in Cambodia, at Phnom Penh, soon after the Tonle Sap; that's where the Mekong as a whole divides into the Bassac (the Sông Hậu or Hậu Giang, in Vietnamese) to the west, and the Mekong proper (the Sông Tiền or Tiền Giang in Vietnamese) to the east.
I think that should be addressed with a bit more precision. I don't think it warrants a separate article, but if ever there is one for the river delta itself, then this article should make it clear that it's about the statistical region. Uporządnicki (talk) 17:01, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
