Untitled[edit]

Since when is there a difference between Downtown and Centre Town? I'd like to see proof. I have maps that show Centre town as being the whole area north of the Queensway. This should be merged with "Centretown" immediately. Earl Andrew 20:10, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Ottawa does not have official neighbourhoods. The census traditionally lumped downtown in with Centre Town because so few people live downtown. Run a Google image search for "downtown Ottawa" you will get a wide array of maps. Some show of much larger area including all of central Ottawa, but the most precise ones confine it to the border I give. - SimonP 22:05, Jan 8, 2005 (UTC)
I have lived in this city for 18 years, and I have never realized there was any difference. In fact, I am still in doubt that there is in spite of what the City of Ottawa says. Earl Andrew 22:36, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)
As a resident of Centretown for many years, I can say my neighbours and I always distinguished between "downtown" and "Centretown". As a land use lawyer, I can also assure you that the two areas are treated quite differently from a planning perspective, including separate Secondary Plans for Centretown and the "Central Area" (the downtown and Parliamentary precinct). And in the planning and zoning context, Gloucester Street is usually treated as the dividing line. Skeezix1000 20:58, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The article says Somerset is the dividing line, but I think it's Gloucester. And I would call it the Central Business District (CBD), not "Downtown". That being said, I usually refer to the entire area as Centretown unless I need to make a particular point of separating out the financial area. Rakerman (talk) 00:16, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have never heard anyone say "Somerset Heights". That's Chinatown. And it's not part of the CBD. Rakerman (talk) 00:21, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Map[edit]

The text map of the city area is completely misaligned on my screen. I think a good image map should be in place instead. -- AirOdyssey (Talk) 20:20, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
