Texico country[edit]

The bibliography in The Third Wave doesn't have a reference for the Texico letters, but in the next paragraph there is a quote advocating an approximation of Texas and Mexico:

My friend, just because a few crackpots wrote letters to the editor suggesting the independent country of Texico does not mean it is worthy of an encyclopedia article. I doubt they were serious or if they were, I doubt anyone else took them seriously. If this info is worthy of an article in Wikipedia, then it should be placed in its own article, not attached to Texico, NM which has nothing to do with the alleged proposal. --H2O 00:58, 3 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Moved info here - suggest you create a separate article:

According to the Toffler chapter, during the 1970s there were several shows of centrifugal tendencies in the US: Ecotopia; a report for Henry Kissinger examinating the separation of California and the Southwest to form "Chicano Quebecs"; Texico; the Texas Monthly quote; Texan "Secession" bumper stickers; and opposition by the governors against the US energy policy.
Texico may very well never have had a real movement. But I think that it is worth the small paragraph I wrote. It should go at Texico, but I think that most of the people that would http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Special:Whatlinkshere&target=Texico%2C_New_Mexico link to Texico] would expect an article about a real town than about an aborted nation.
The solution I see is moving Texico, New Mexico to Texico and include the small paragraph at the end of the article.

I think the solution would be to create a separate article, say "Texico proposal" and let "Texico" be a disambiguation page. If this incident is of any significance, you should be able to find enough info to turn it into a real article. "Texico, New Mexico" is the standard format for an article about a US town or city, so I think it should remain so. The two have nothing to do with one another. --H2O 19:50, 5 Sep 2004 (UTC)

In The Third Wave, Alvin Toffler mentions that during the 1970s, there were letters to the director in the Texan press promoting the union of Texas and Mexico to form an oil-rich country named Texico.

This nothing inherently inappropriate with adding a short small amount of information referencing the "country of Texico" proposal for interest, at least as a "see also", or a "not to be confused with" ~ Dpr 06:36, 31 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
