Move[edit]

I moved this page from Princess Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg since discussion at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (names and titles) seems to suggest Queen consort titles are dropped. --Jiang 09:39, 27 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Style box[edit]

For the last couple of days there's been a revert battle going on between several editors about the box showing Queen Ena's styles. Rather than continue this revert battle, how about a discussion?

The box gives a "Reference style - Her Majesty", a "Spoken style - Your Majesty" and an "Alternative style - Ma'am". Although Ena was raised speaking English, that wasn't the language of the court where she was consort. Her reference style was "Sua Majestade Catolica" (in English, usually, Her Most Catholic Majesty). Only in England would somebody have addressed her as "Ma'am".

While I wouldn't use the word "silly" to describe the box, I don't feel that it is very useful. Certainly if it's going to be kept (and I would vote no), the information should be more accurate. Noel S McFerran 03:36, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So how about this...since we started using the infoboxes to keep styles out of the opening paragraph (an ongoing battle, but that is for another discussion). Are there any ideas comments about using an adjusted infobox for Victoria Eugenie. I would put the Spanish in, but being English WP, I thought wp:use english. I have to ask what the point of this style box is (having already questioned the accuracy of the information provided there). It is not usual in an encyclopedia article (except in Wikipedia) to provide the style of a particular royal. Indeed, even in a book-length biography of Ena, I'm not sure that one would find such information. Such information might be useful for a living royal, but I can't see how it is for somebody historical. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a collection of peculiar tidbits of information (there's a difference). Noel S McFerran 03:37, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Eugenie vs. Eugenia[edit]

User:ObRoy moved this page to Victoria Eugenia of Battenberg. However, she was born with the name Victoria Eugenie. Should it be moved back? How are queen-consorts handled when they have a name change? Alexandra Fyodorovna of Hesse is at her married name + maiden title, so should this be here as well? father's nationality at marriage[edit]

The article presently reads: The treaty did not constitute compliance with the Royal Marriages Act of 1772, which requires that descendants of King George II obtain the British sovereign's prior permission to marry by Order-in-Council. While an exception to this requirement exists for descendants of royal daughters that marry "into foreign families", Ena's father had been naturalised a British subject prior to his wedding. He hadn't been. The marriage of Prince Henry of Battenberg to Princess Beatrice of the United Kingdom took place on 23 July 1885, but the House of Commons were still discussing the Bill for his naturalisation on 31 July. British princess?[edit]

So we know that Victoria Eugenie was a Hessian princess by birth as a member of the Battenberg family, but was she also a British princess due to the royal warrant in 1886 naming the children of her parents as Highnesses in the United Kingdom? -- Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 22:32, 29 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
