Why wild sorghum?[edit]

Why has someone suggested creation of a page for wild sorgum when Wiki already has a page for sorghum as distinct fromthe pages on commercial sorghum and Sorghum bicolor? Is there any information on the numeorus Australian sorghum species that doesn't fit in the existing sorghum article? After all it's not like Sorghum is a uniquely Australian genus, and AFAIK none of the Australian species are endemic.Ethel Aardvark (talk) 01:35, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome to remove any entries that you are sure do not belong. I would have listed them at Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian biota if there was an opentask template on the page. geography section[edit]

I inserted a geography section at the top of the list. I hope this doesn't annoy anyone but my reasoning is that the geography of a country is the physical bedrock. You can have geography without people but you can't have people without geography. Oska 08:48, Dec 2, 2004 (UTC)

Articles without images section[edit]

I notice there is the Articles_requiring_images section on this project page and there is the Request_for_images page as well. What is the difference between the two? Can I remove section 9 from this article and we all just work on the one page? Considering the link to the request page appears at the top of the Complete to-do list it should be sufficient. New Category[edit]

Is there some reason why there is not a category for Australian inventions (splayds, stump-jump plough, etc.), Australian scientific discoveries (Helicobacter pylori), Australian engineeering marvels (Snowy Mountain Scheme), and Australian innovations (seat belt legislation). To me, all of these have a common theme -- the-over neglected role of scientific pursuits. I don't know how or where to make this suggestion for a new "Australian" category; so I have placed it here. I hope that somebody can kick this off in a good way and encourage Australians to remember that that have a very strong science/engineering heritage.129.94.6.30 00:12, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rename[edit]

I intend to move this and all related task pages to a new naming format based on Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia in the next day or so, unless there are any objections. Support I have been waiting for someone to suggest this. Definately the list sections should be more aligned with current and expected projects. Having some place to initally add uncreated articles on a list for WPAustralia related items is useful, so is drawing attention to a list of articles that need expansion, although these are automatically created at Wikipedia:Pages needing attention/Australia with a tag. Another thing to consider is the discussion about the Lost and found section. If newly created articles and stubs were added to Wikipedia:New articles (Australia) until we get a bot do to that automatically, the lost and found section would be better placed on this renamed project page. I'm happy to move items to Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian politics and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian history#Articles by Subject and then add tasks sections at Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian sports, etc, to reduce the list. - Shiftchange 03:51, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Andrew Inglis Clark - Help wanted[edit]

Currently, there is a stub which covers AIC. Since he is so important in the history of Federation (86 of 128 sections in the Constitution derive from his Draft), not to mention that he was the person who proposed Commonwealth of Australia (he did a lot more, he's been compared to Thomas Jefferson), is anyone else working on an artcle? I'm 2,500 words into what will probably end up being 5,000-8,000 words. I'm looking for help, especially with proofing and reference checking. Papafox (talk) 00:15, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrite Seafood in Australia[edit]

The page Seafood in Australia appears to be a student essay on the topic. While it does cite sources, it appears to contain a good deal of original research via synthesis. The format (particularly use of bold face), references, and indiscriminate lists also require attention. Unfortunately, I have neither the knowledge nor the skill to rewrite the page myself. On the assumption that the subject is notable, I am requesting help from WikiProject Food and drink and WikiProject Australia to rewrite the page. Any help you can offer would be most appreciated. Pages for schools[edit]

I've noticed that only a small percentage of Victorian schools have pages. I feel that these are important because I assume a good bulk of parents will use Google to research schools for their children, and factual information could be very useful. I've created pages for Knoxfield Primary School, Carrington Primary School, and will look into Scoresby Secondary College. I plan on visiting Ian Craighead, the principal of Carrington Primary School and asking his permission to access some of the files on the history of Carrington PS and Knoxfield PS (knoxfield ps merged with scoresby ps and became Carrington) ... I can't see this being an issue and all because I know him personally, as well as some of the staff. One of the teachers has been teaching there since the 70's (was my grade 1 teacher AND my supervising practicuum teacher in university when I was on placement lol!) so some of her memories would be a great asset to add.

I might also email the principal of Scoresby Secondary College and ask him if he'd like to talk to his IT teachers and have some of the older students work on the Wikipedia page as an ongoing project. I'm aware that there have been issues with articles by students in the past, but I'll be sure to address this in the email. I also feel that the article being started by people who have direct access to the schools history will make it a lot easier to get accurate information happening. He was the Vice Principal while I was there, and I'm sure he'll say yes, this type of stuff is right up his alley. As I'm fairly new to editing, if you notice anything I do wrong, please feel free to correct me, it's probably one of the best ways to learn this kind of stuff quickly :) --Berrie (talk) 07:35, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Requested articles from the requested articles page[edit]

Propose removing "to expand" sections[edit]

This page is rarely used anyway, but I find the "to expand" sections particularly useless. Obviously most articles on wiki can be expanded, and the ones listed on this page seem no shorter nor worthy of expansion than any other Australian wiki page. Many of them were added to this list years and years ago anyway. At most I'd suggest we only list high/top importance stub/start class articles. --99of9 (talk) 04:09, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Ballarat Reform League" duplicates existing "Eureka Rebellion" wiki page[edit]

To the Project Committee.

The wiki page for the 'Ballarat Reform League is listed as a To Do item for the Australia Project, so I have been reviewing it.

I have three findings regarding the article, in addition to the issues raised by previous reviewers: i.e. that it lacks references and it lacks neutrality (seeming to be more for the purpose of promoting a local history group seeking funding):

1) The topic is already well-covered in the wiki page Eureka Rebellion, which is of a higher standard than the page in question here.

2) Intrinsically, the Ballarat Reform League is of low importance. It was short-lived, lasting only a matter of weeks. The League's pacifist president, Humffray, was over-ridden by the more pugilistic and charismatic Lalor and the rebels followed him into the fight.

3) The legacy of the Ballarat Reform League was the Ballarat Reform Charter, or the "Diggers Charter". This demanded enfranchisement of the diggers. It has enjoyed a certain amount of puffery, often being claimed as a seminal document for Australian democracy, although historians such as Geoffrey Blainey do not agree that it was.

Conclusion:

I recommend that this article is removed, on the grounds that it duplicates the information in an existing and more competent article Eureka Rebellion.
