The interviewee in the Sex and the Censor documentary was actually Derek Jarman himself.

Subtitles?[edit]

Yes, I've seen some English films with heavy dialect (such as some of Ken Loach's stuff) and with English subtitles. I'm going to remove the assertion as unsupportable. TheEvilPanda (talk) 04:04, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Passed by the censors?[edit]

Didn't Jarman deliberately send a copy to the UK censors on 16mm, so the scene where a chappy with an erection was not seen in the completed shot due to the restricted frame size. The film was passed as an X but when Sebastiane went on general release it was shown in 35mm therefore the full frame revealed the first engorged male member ever seen on British cinema screens!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.160.125.136 (talk) 11:21, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I watched this tonight on Netflix and didn't see any such scene. Netflix wouldn't censor that, so there must be more than one version out there, or it's very easy to miss. I didn't see anything homoerotic either, but I was surprised to see the best film probably ever made, and I've seen just about it all, or I thought so. No surprise with Brian Eno and Lindsay Kemp in the credits. Definitely not homoerotica--184.63.132.236 (talk) 08:17, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The film was shown at the Irish Film Theatre in the late 1970s and there were certainly uncensored homoerotic scenes and erections. Indeed, some of the scenes were in slow motion, if I recall correctly, so it might be accurate to say that the on-screen talent was portrayed "lovingly" and "lingeringly" for the benefit of the audience.

Perhaps Netflix did not censor the copy you watched, User:184.63.132.236, but a censored copy was certainly shown if you "didn't see anything homoerotic." — O'Dea (talk) 22:25, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
