Emerson iron lung

1799 – Jeanne Geneviève Garnerin became the first woman to make a parachute descent, falling 900 metres (3,000 ft) in the gondola of a hot air balloon.
1890 – The Uddevalla Suffrage Association was founded in Uddevalla, Sweden, with the purpose of bringing about universal suffrage.
1928 – The iron lung (example pictured), a type of medical ventilator, was used for the first time, to treat an eight-year-old girl paralyzed by polio.
1933 – The United States Department of Justice acquired a military prison on Alcatraz Island, transforming it over the next year into the last-resort Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary.
1960 – Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev reportedly pounded his shoe on a desk during a meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in protest at a speech by Philippine delegate Lorenzo Sumulong.

Heribert of Cologne (private feast day)[edit]

This has been discussed at the page Talk:Heribert_of_Cologne and the decision was made to remove the reference to a "private feast day" since there is no such thing. I suggest that Heribert of Cologne be removed from Oct. 12. --Richardson mcphillips (talk) 23:15, 11 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Feast for Life of Aleister Crowley (Crowleymas)[edit]

I've seen this religious holiday (celebrated in Thelema, etc) deleted multiple times on the basis that it is already mentioned in birthdays, yet we have multiple instances of the "Discovery of the Americas" listed even though it is already covered in events and we list multiple, even outdated, Christian feast days constantly. What is a good reason to keep it out of the Holidays and observances section?

Births and deaths[edit]

Continuing the ongoing effort to reduce the size of the Births and Deaths sections to make them manageable, I've removed some celebrities with few or no articles in other wikipedias, moving the entries to the appropriate Year in Topic article if they were not already present. :See also Wikipedia_talk:Days_of_the_year#June_11_and_removal_of_entries_by_Deb for ongoing discussion, evidence of general consensus and proposals for improvement. Columbus Landing date[edit]

So, this date, October 12th is supposed to be the date associated with the Gregorian dating schema correct?? Does his landing falling on 12-OCT Julian count? shouldn't this event reside on the 05-OCT page, with a reference to the 12 OCT Julian date? BeefsteakMaters (talk) 19:13, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
