Perhaps this article should give some indication, at least by ref. to the reason Utah has execution by shooting Blood atonement

I'm also in favor of discussing that, but blood atonement is not THE reason for Utah's formerly unique method (incidentally, the article should mention that condemned convicts in the future will not get the firing squad, although others might have been gandfathered in). If I have time, I'll add some refs to this article. In part, the firing squad was a carryover from the Mexican practice in the territory. When the Supreme Court upheld Utah Territory's firing squad, they made particular note of this fact.

Also, perhaps this article should be moved to "Capital punishment in Utah" or somesuch? Cool Hand Luke 18:12, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
