Untitled[edit]

I have made some year layout proposals which would affect a significant proportion of the year pages: an example of proposed style is 1850. It is detailed on my talk page.

If no-one flags where I have put the discussion on my talk page that they object in a month I will start making everything consistent. It may take some time... --BozMo 12:22, 7 May 2004 (UTC)(talk)[reply]

Is the Assy McGee stuff really necessary? This just really seems to point out the poverty of the page's material. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.233.99.57 (talk) 05:33, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Napoleonic Wars[edit]

January 9 – British Prime Minister William Pitt the Younger introduces an income tax of two shillings to the pound, to raise funds for Great Britain's war effort in the Napoleonic Wars.

I find this suspect, or at least in severe need of clarification. Napoleon did not come into power until Fall 1799, and the Napoleonic Wars themselves did not begin until 1803, at which time William Pitt the Younger was not Prime Minister. This tax is not mentioned at all in the latter's page during his first premiership. There is no citation provided, can someone show one? I'm not saying this didn't happen, but at least from my understanding of the time period it seems at least highly reductive. If this tax was specifically created to fund war efforts against France, and was in fact instituted 9 Jan 1799, then at the time it was raised to aid in the War of the Second Coalition, which is not considered part of the Napoleonic Wars, because Napoleon had not become Consul yet. I just feel this probably should be reworded.
