Invitation to Sydney editathon - Saturday 23rd November

There is a backstage pass coming up to be followed by an editathon in the State Library of New South Wales on Saturday 23 November. This is the first time that an Australian cultural institution has opened its doors to us in this way and will be a special opportunity because the Library is providing: one of its best rooms; its expert curators (along with their expertise and their white gloves); a newly launched website (containing new resources); and of course, items from its collection (including rare and usually unavailable material) which we can look at, learn from, and use, to improve WP articles. For example, on the chosen topic (Australia and WWI), the Library holds many diaries and manuscripts from the period.

As you can see from the Library's project page, they have connected this editathon with their own work. They have already set out a wide range of resources to make things easier for us. World War II Tank Battalion Structure image

Hello Oso (which by the way is Spanish for "bear"): saw the subject image you added to a couple of the articles I wrote on US WW2 independent tank battalions. Not sure I would have added it if I had the choice (inclined to think a new article on the tank battalion in WW2 might be a better fit, but one rather far down the road!), but think it can be useful.

However, my main concern is the legibility of the image. Even at full image size, the writing within the boxes is very small and barely legible. They are unfortunately not legible on any scale that fits the whole image on a computer screen. Would therefore suggest a couple of improvements: make the boxes slightly larger, then also make the print larger within the boxes, so that the image can be read when it is on full screen but not full size. Appreciate all your effort in creating the image, but want to get the most out of it.

Hi Greg. What I've created is known as an "Order of Battle", or "Orbat" for short. These graphics are increasingly being used in various military articles, especially those concerned with unit organisation. There are a number of us who have been creating these graphics in the past few years.

As an example of our work, check out 1st Infantry Division (United States). The first two Orbats were created by myself (WWI and WWII) while the other two (1989 and current) were created by a user called noclador.

Noclador is the one who started the colour scheme (pink/redbeing armour, bright yellow as artillery, etc). I follow his colour scheme and font type as a way of standardising the images.

All the Orbats can be found here: Category:Military OrBat Graphics. The boxes I use are here: Category:APP-6

While I appreciate the fact that the Orbat graph is hard to see, it is my understanding that if people wish to look at the image, they will click on it to see a larger version. There are people out there who are interested in this subject and most of them would wish to see a larger image, and that larger image contains details that can't be seen when it is thumbnailed.

So to answer your question - I am not in favour of simplifying the image, but perhaps a "(click to see more details)" should be added to it.

Sadly I can't remember exactly where I heard it, but I'm pretty sure it was in one of the videos by Nicholas Moran. Certainly it can be argued that while the Germans never used the terms "Infantry Tank" and "Cruiser Tank", the original designs of the Pz III and Pz IV were very much in line with the roles outlined in the article. As I pointed out in my edits, the respective original armaments of the Pz III and Pz IV speak volumes for their original role. Sorry I can't offer more than that but I would suggest placing a template warning the reader rather than removing the text. I think the whole "Eschatology" column in the List of Presbyterian and Reformed denominations in Australia is rather dubious. In particular, it gives a much greater prominence to postmillennialism than I think is deserved - i.e. many of these denominations are functionally amil only. Maybe just delete the column? Club badges

Thanks for your work keeping club badges up-to-date, but when you upload a new one, please can you avoid having lots of whitespace around the edge. This is leading to some logos displaying strangely in infoboxes (with lots of space above them). Any logo images should be cropped tight around the edge of the badge. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
