Nathanel Gibbs, 1893[edit]

Is anybody aware of who this guy was? He was presented a miniature sextant, parts carved in ivory. What did he do to get this to be presented to him by "The Royal Navy School Dartmouth". Fact Check[edit]

This phrase doesn't make sense "Cadets originally joined the Royal Naval College, Osborne, at the age of 13 for two years before joining Dartmouth, and thereafter cadets spent four years at Dartmouth before starting sea training at 17. " If you start at 13, add two, then you join Dartmouth at 15, four years after that you'd be 19 when you start sea training. Doesn't make sense. Mbisanz (talk) 04:23, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MBisanz, you overlooked the possibility that "later" might not include the continuation of both colleges. Osborne closed in 1921, and after that the whole four years were spent at Dartmouth. Moonraker (talk) 08:34, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hawke Term[edit]

While researching someone's bio, I came across "Hawke Term" connected with the entry into Dartmouth and other naval colleges. Can anyone explain its meaning? JMcC (talk) 11:20, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

While talking to a member of a Hawke Term, I came across the answer to my own question. There are intakes at the start of each of the three terms a year. The course lasts 11 terms. Each intake is named after a British Admiral. The Hawke Term is named after Edward Hawke, 1st Baron Hawke. JMcC (talk) 15:20, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Campus[edit]

I am not really comfortable with the use of the word Campus, having been through BRNC, I have never once heard it described as a "Campus". Lord High Admiral and "Commanders" of the College[edit]

The Lord High Admiral is now the Duke of Edinburgh. Seperately I find the title "Commanders" of the college confusing as the post of XO within the college is referred to as "The Commander". A more fitting description would be "Commanding Officers", although it should be noted that the post is reffered to as "The Commodore" within the college (as it is currently held by someone of that rank). --109.246.112.162 (talk) 23:43, 9 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
