(Dwelling)[edit]

The following indented material is a quotation from some dictionary source, included without introduction by User:Hakluyt bean. Jerzyt 06:50, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gaff
n.
Common slang used in Dublin, Ireland for house or place of dwelling.

It's used all over 'the Isles', most usually you hear it with a cockney accent, I've changed the entry accordingly. Hakluyt bean 16:45, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dict-defs for development[edit]

Hooks[edit]

I've moved, and revised by adding edit-hist info & reformatting, the following to this talk page, from the article's comment where i initially placed it:

The following dict-def item (contributed primarily by User:Ryaskgoldengryph at 21:56, 17 July 2007) could become a Dab entry
IF and WHEN
there is a corresponding article that *mentions* gaffs, AND includes encyclopedic information on gaffs (in this sense of "gaff"):
* Gaff, metal spike worn on the inner sides of each foot of a lineman (occupation) or other climber of poles or trees
Note: There is mention of gaffs used in this sense in the Utility poles#Access article

Someone who presumably chose to disregard that restored a version of that entry; i've left it in place, modified in compliance with the red-and-blue-link format, which serves to inform savvy users (and hints it to others) that there is no encyclopedic treatment of climbing gaffs at the blue-linked article.

Tricks[edit]

I've moved, and revised by adding edit-hist info & reformatting, the following to this talk page, from the article's comment where i initially placed it:

The following dict-def items (contributed primarily by, respectively,76.185.239.222 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) at 18:24, 23 July 2007 and User:Emperor at 16:20, 19 March 2007, could become Dab entries
IF and WHEN
there are corresponding articles that *mention* gaffs, AND include encyclopedic information on gaffs (in the corresponding senses of "gaff"):
* Gaff, an artificially created fantastical creature (the name comes the fishing term, as they were used at sideshows to "hook" people in), examples include the Fiji mermaid
* Gaffs, playing cards with special marks or adjustments that are used to achieve effects in card magic
