Reasons to restore with a crown.[edit]

I came to this article because I wondered why a person would need a crown (not because I wanted to know what a crown is). From the introduction, all I can gather is that they cap or encircle a tooth (or dental implant) to improve the strength or appearance of said tooth (or dental implant).

The first section is titled "Other reasons to restore with a crown", but I'm left wondering what the primary reason is. As this article concerns teeth (something which almost all readers of wikipedia probably have and occasionally think about), I think this article might be improved by assuming a bit less prior knowledge, and explaining the necessity of a crown outright.

I will happily read (elsewhere) about crowns and subsequently make these changes myself, but if anyone else with previous understanding or experience would like to contribute suggestions, or an outright rewrite, I welcome them.

CAD/CAM Dentistry, Restorative Materials[edit]

I am probably picking nits, but I would rather see the term CAD/CAM Dentistry exchanged for CAD/CAM Dental Laboratory Work, or perhaps CAD/CAM Fabrication. The reason I did not edit the main article is that it is debatable. The reason I brought it up is that computers do not do the actual dentistry, they do the dental laboratory work of fabricating the restoration.

Further, other materials might be explored, as I am sure some of my more learned colleagues may be able to cite journal articles regarding lithium disilicate. I prescribe it often for my patients, as I know its physical properties and clinical use, but I do not have articles to cite. Thanks! Jedaniel (talk) 19:36, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dental crown may refer to normal anatomy not just a restoration.[edit]

I would say that the original anatomical meaning of a crown is that part of a tooth which is above the gingiva. Surely this should be defined in the article? Maybe hatnote? Lesion (talk) 17:30, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Citation for fracture rates[edit]
