Introduction[edit]

"The university received media attention for the invention of genetic fingerprinting, and for contributing to the discovery and identification of the remains of King Richard III." This seems to largely miss the point. 'Media attention' is secondary to the scientific and cultural value, respectively, of both discoveries. Similarly, the University was near-wholly responsible for the discovery and identification of Richard III. Though the contributions of individual partners played an important part, 'contributing' is a clear understatement. This should be rewritten. Search for Richard III's remains[edit]

Another editor and I are in disagreement at Talk:The Lost King#Langley as "leader" as to whether it is appropriate to say that Philippa Langley "led the search" to find Richard III's remains. Other views welcome. GrindtXX (talk) 11:36, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Closed departments[edit]

Why doesn't the history section have information on the departments that were closed, such as Philosophy, and Classics? There may be others I don't know about. Stronach (talk) 10:48, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Probably because the university administration is actively editing the page. The pure mathematics department was also closed at the same time. The academic boycott of the university was one of the big newsstories of the time at least in academic circles. People still talk about it a lot. There were several letters to the American Mathematical Society about it, and Sir Timothy Gowers was extensively involved in a campaign to save it.2001:861:E385:7F80:380B:ADE3:B12D:E823 (talk) 07:32, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
