Untitled[edit]

Comments moved to Talk:Bloody Sunday (1920).

In humanities class we learned about an earthquake that happened shortly after the drive to build bigger and taller churches. This earthquake happened at around 11-12 sunday morning and as a result many churches collapsed killing many.

I don't remember anything more, but I'm sure the term bloody sunday refers to many more later events as well as the ones currently listed.

'Bloody Sunday'[edit]

Could someone author an article explaining the origins of the term 'bloody sunday' itself?

According to the 1913 and Dublin Lock-out articles, 31st August 1913 is also known as Bloody Sunday in some circles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rjmunro (talkcontribs) 23:56, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikilinks are useful and needed in certain disambiguation pages[edit]

I understand the need for disambiguation pages to get the reader as quickly as possible to the page of their goal. However, this speedy delivery is not one size fits all. In the case of the 'Bloody Sunday' dab, pertinent, crucial additional information is, I believe, necessary. This dab page lists nineteen highly political events where blood was shed, and, in many cases, people died. It is natural that this will be a fraught subject. And that, since those events span from Ireland in 1887 through Lithuania in 1991, and since Wikipedia has a global audience interested in the subject, the this should be a case of ignore all rules. This to allow readers to reach there goal without wondering why so many events are so named and to realize the global distribution of such events and naming conventions. This has been a problem in the past—see the editing history. In addition it is puzzling why the links were removed only for the politically fraught events, and not for the cultural works. Having these links will, I think, help build the encyclopedia—I'd like to hear what other editors think, in a discussion where all assume good faith.

In the interests of transparency, I now ping the only two editors other than myself who have any involvement with this point: Swpb and Toddst1. I hope for your participation.(I'm not pinging the editors from a few years ago who did find the use of the title contentious. Anyone may, of course, ping them also.) — Neonorange (talk) 23:08, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I was asked indirectly to look at this also, and it's clear that the linking would be making an exception to an established general rule, and that would take actual consensus. As for whether this would be justified, I'm not going to comment, at least not now. DGG ( talk ) 03:13, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The only difference between the events and the cultural works is that I missed the extra links in the cultural works, which I've now corrected. The principle of one link per entry is probably the most firmly established, and most frequently reaffirmed, guidance in all of MOSDAB, and absolutely nothing you've said so far speaks to what would make this dab any different. Readers search "Bloody Sunday" to get to an article specifically about a Bloody Sunday—not about a country, city, or group involved in such an event. You say you understand this, but I'm not convinced you do. You won't just need any consensus to be granted an exception here, you'll need an extraordinary consensus, with agreement from WikiProject Disambiguation. You can forge ahead with seeking that if you want, but I imagine you could use your time more productively. —swpbT 14:19, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Equivalent spanish page: Can't add to language list[edit]

Here it is: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domingo_Sangriento

But if you try to add it to the list of pages in other languages there's some kind of error. Is it a merge needed there? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Riveravaldez (talkcontribs) 19:30, 28 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki says:

> Could not save due to an error.

> The save has failed. > The link eswiki:Domingo Sangriento is already used by item Q207362. You may remove it from Q207362 if it does not belong there or merge the items if they are about the exact same topic.

Don't know how to merge. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Riveravaldez (talkcontribs) 19:35, 28 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
