Iranian banning[edit]

Solino keeps insisting that this part is irrelevant. I suggest that it is relevant as it is showing the reception received by the film in Iran. What say ye, consensus builders? ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 08:01, 19 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think it should be kept, as it gives a very precise reason for its banning, a reason which would obviously be different from say banning Fast & Furious or X-men. Mariomassone (talk) 09:18, 19 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Should be kept. No clue why anyone would think it was "irrelevant".★Trekker (talk) 09:31, 19 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Seems worth including. I'd be curious to hear more from Solino on this. DonIago (talk) 12:41, 19 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Iran is hardly a vanguard for freedom of speech and expression, so the real question is whether this is a noteworthy issue woth covering. Personally I wouldn't add it unless it was unusual by Iranian standards or created a controversy. Betty Logan (talk) 12:58, 19 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm leaning towards Betty's opinion on this one. Its interesting, but its not that unusual for Iran to do this, so it might be inappropriate to bring this amount of attention to it. If it had something unique to this film that led to a ban (i.e: production related) instead of thematic, where it will lead to a wide ban of several films, not just a few oddball ones, then it might be a misrepresentation to point on this one. I don't like the source. Claims with political/religious implications should probably not be coming exclusively from a click-baity IGN Top Ten list. I mean, would we consider it a reliable source for the claim that [t]he pickings at Iranian videostores [are somewhat] slim? The author reaches that conclusion from the state having banned this movie, Zoolander, Pinocchio and Oliver!, maybe one or two of which could be found on the shelves of any random Japanese video store, where (I'm assuming) none of these films have been banned by government censors. He also misspells the word "sacreligious" and puts in scare-quotes, thus inadvertently attributing the misspelling to the Iranian government. Assuming the claim can in fact be verified in better sources, though, then it clearly belongs in the article. Hijiri 88 (やや) 00:12, 20 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The irrelevance comes from the fact that every western film is banned before censorship in Iran. So mentioning this for a particular film gives the impression that the film's ban was more noteworthy than all the other films for some reason, which is not true. Like all other film, a censored version is legally available in stores. Solinothe Wolf 04:19, 26 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Solino: Wait, really? Can you find a source for Like all other film, a censored version is legally available in stores? A link to an image of a video cover would be enough for me. According to fa.wiki, the Farsi name for the film is "بلور تاریک", but Googling that brought up very few images of non-English DVD cases (the one that wasn't in English appeared to be in Italian). As should be obvious from the above, I am very ready to believe the IGN source is bogus: if you can convince me that they got even this basic fact wrong (as I've seen a lot of such sources get a lot of things wrong about China and Japan), then I'll be happy to stop [a]ssuming the claim can in fact be verified in better sources. Well it's subbed not dubbed. You can find it in persian websites. Here's one website which is selling a digital copy. www.98movz.xyz/1394/05/دانلود-انیمیشن-the-dark-crystal-1982/— Preceding unsigned comment added by Solino (talkcontribs) 04:03, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Recent picture inclusion[edit]

@Mariomassone: why, on this edit, 1, did you include it on the cast section? I should think that the production section would be more fitting? Unless there's a connection I'm missing? --Cheers! Elfabet (talk) 13:14, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't want to clutter the production section, s'all. It can be moved if that is preferable. Mariomassone (talk) 19:27, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
