Naming conventions questions[edit]

Dropping a line here to ask two questions I had when trying to make sense of the NC pages under this project.

The first is this: was Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Australian and New Zealand stations) ever accepted or formally adopted? (I see, for instance, that Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Taiwan stations) was not, but there was ambiguity about the ANZ page.)

The second is a thought. Wikipedia:Naming conventions (stations) is occupied by a longtime historic proposal. Would it be worth archiving that elsewhere and, if the country stations pages have to be separate, creating a disambiguation page for the various railway station NC pages by country/region, or perhaps an overarching summary page for the nine NCs that are about or mention railway stations? The vast majority of links to it are archived talk pages. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 08:29, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know about the AUNZ page, but your idea for Wikipedia:Naming conventions (stations) is a good one - we'd just need to include a link to where the historic proposal is moved to (Wikipedia:Naming conventions (stations)/2004 proposal perhaps). Thryduulf (talk) 11:08, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'd also like to see a link to Wikipedia:Naming conventions (broadcasting), for radio and television stations, at that title. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 06:09, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Commons Category placing in station articles[edit]

Hi, where should the Commons template be placed in, for example, station articles? Is it under References, External Links etc? The box I'm thinking of is this box

, using TAT as an example... Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 15:20, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that if the article already contains an "External links" section, you can add the {{commons category}} template at the top of the list of links (so that the box will appear to the right of the links). If it doesn't, you can add an "External links" section with {{Commons category-inline}} as the sole entry. Deor (talk) 16:08, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If the article is short and the box gets shoved down by other things, then move it to the left or switch to the {{Commons category-inline}} template. Keith D (talk) 17:06, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
see Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Layout#Links to sister projects. Nthep (talk) 19:09, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It always goes in the last section, which doesn't need to be named "External links". Don't create an external links section if all it would contain is the {{commons category}}. This should be clear from the template's doc. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 12:09, 24 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What to do with Seaboard Air Line Depot[edit]

Seaboard Air Line Depot is currently classified as a disambiguation page, but does not fit the criteria. I have asked what to do with the page at Talk:Seaboard Air Line Depot. Any input will be appreciated. - Donald Albury 18:01, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Use of the "NSW TrainLink regional" style in infoboxes[edit]

As a heads-up: where instances of infobox station have the |style2=NSW TrainLink regional attribute set, the resulting white-text-on-orange-background header doesn't comply with the requirements of MOS:CONTRAST. I've fixed this at Canberra by manually enclosing the name string in a {{font colour}} template, but I'd appreciate other editors looking out for this too (or, even better, coming up with a systematic fix). Thanks. XAM2175 (T) 23:40, 9 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The styling comes from Module:Adjacent stations/NSW TrainLink. Mackensen (talk) 00:24, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, and I gather that changing line 11 to read color: #ffffff000000; background-color: #f6891f; will do the trick. Do you know if this will affect any other application? XAM2175 (T) 02:00, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It won't; those settings are only used for station infoboxes. You can preview the effect when editing the module. Mackensen (talk) 02:48, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Brilliant, thanks very much. XAM2175 (T) 11:53, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Third opinion requested[edit]

I would like a third opinion on whether the incident given in Division station (CTA Logan Square branch)#Accidents and incidents is important enough to include. This came up in a good article review. Steelkamp (talk) 16:43, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If it's sourced and relates to the station (which it is - it happened there), then I don't see any problem it being there. Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 17:31, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree - petty robberies like this were sadly common at train stations back in the day. They're generally not worth noting except for unusual incidents like the 1995 attack at Kingston–Throop Avenues station. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 00:23, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Project-independent quality assessments[edit]

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. SEPTA Metro page moves[edit]

The following are planned page moves per SEPTA's pending renaming of the following stations and services:

Cards84664 02:14, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Just noting that I talked to Cards84664 about this off-wiki. I'm fine with these moves. However, I'm wondering about the feasibility of splitting off SEPTA Metro (I theorized that it could be split off immediately, but looking at the sourcing on the SEPTA page, it seemed like most of the sources about SEPTA Metro were primary sources until I added some secondary sources just now). – Epicgenius (talk) 16:19, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's a little too early to implement these moves. The current SEPTA maps and current schedules do not include these new line or station names. However, the new "SEPTA Metro" name for the network as a whole is currently being used, so I do support an article split.
According to the official SEPTA Metro page, the changes to the line names will be made in 2024, although there is no precise date. Regarding those changes, the word "Line" (or "Lines") will need to be included in the title. Each lettered line will also have a number, even if it only operates a single service (e.g. the MFL will be "L", but its service will be "L1"). So do we include the redudant "1" in the title? That might need to be discussed. In the meantime, here are my suggestions for page moves sometime next year:
Dream out loud (talk) 08:27, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Per SEPTA Metro's new terminology, an alternative could be T (SEPTA Metro lines) and T1 (SEPTA Metro train) (or trolley, but they're trying to get rid of that terminology). I don't intend to move these yet, this is just an early discussion to iron out the new naming conventions. Cards84664 14:50, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think the word "Line" should definitely be included in the title, and not between parentheses. This is pretty standard among all rail line articles (e.g. T Line (Sound Transit), B Line (Los Angeles Metro), Piccadilly line). –Dream out loud (talk) 15:41, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
From what I have been reading through, SEPTA is going for a NYCS approach, i.e. B (New York City Subway service). Cards84664 19:44, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The NYCS network is a little different in the sense that there is a difference between "lines" and "services". For example, B (New York City Subway service) runs along the IND Sixth Avenue Line. Most networks don't differentiate between "lines" (i.e. physical trackage) and "services". –Dream out loud (talk) 08:47, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Correct, in this instance B is the line and B1 is the service. Cards84664 16:20, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Is this really notable? I saw this during this month's referencing drive, but did not edit it. Bearian (talk) 02:14, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

One of the largest freight and passenger stations in Slovenia, nearly 180 years old, I'd be astounded if there weren't sources available to prove its notability. Probably the majority aren't in English though, and a sizeable proportion won't be online. Thryduulf (talk) 18:58, 14 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Can we find some sources, please? Bearian (talk) 15:39, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
