Notes[edit]

1. The caption for the photo of Boniface should read "Boniface VIII."

2. The third photo shows an existing tiara identified as a 16th-century tiara. In Wiki's "List of Papal Tiaras in Existence," it is associated with Gregory XIII (reigned 1572-1585). This is the tiara used to crown the statue of St. Peter once a year.

But the Holy See's official website--

http://212.77.1.245/news_services/press/documentazione/documents/sp_ss_scv/insigne/triregno_en.html

--describes this tiara as 18th century.

Could anyone help resolve this discrepancy? Or does anyone know the source for the 16th-century attribution? Its design seems too contemporary to be 16th century.

3. Typo: Under the paragraph "First Mention," it should read "was mentioned in the supposed ... ."

Good work. The reason I said 16th century was because it had been written as such in a caption elsewhere by someone who converted a roman numeral to 16. I've checked back and they should have translated it to 18. I'll go by the Holy See's website, though they do get it wrong sometimes themselves. FearÉIREANN(talk) 02:11, 16 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Innocent III[edit]

Thanks for revising your articles so quickly! I appreciate your diligence. (But you might also want to check the spelling of Boniface in the rest of the article--and revise the "survival [-ing] tiara" caption typo.)

I was intruiged by your reference to a TWO-crown tiara of Innocent III. Boniface VIII fans will get a rise out of this. Can you give a citation or source for this painting? In every source I checked, I found only one-crown tiaras for Innocent III. This is a startling revelation, as this would precede Boniface's two-crown tiara by almost a century. Many thanks.

Merge?[edit]

Any reason not to merge it with Papal tiara#History? PPEMES (talk) 09:44, 11 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Weak oppose, on the grounds that it is consistent with WP:SUMMARY format, and vaguely separates off the pre-1300 headgear with subsequent more formal tiara. Klbrain (talk) 07:45, 6 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Closing, given the absence of support. Klbrain (talk) 21:52, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
