Changes[edit]

Removed copy about K'NEX Theme park, which does not exist and there was no citation. Also added brief line about their Sesame St license. Mjl46 (talk) 14:47, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tone? / Product guide / Marketing drivel[edit]

I personally love K'NEX, but I think that the header on the top of the page was right about the tone of the article: the product descriptions sounded like they were taken right from the advertisements. If I get time, I will fix it. --Freiberg, Let's talk!, contribs 23:05, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I defiantly agree with you. It does seem like an advertisement at times and it could just use more useful information overall. --MrSix 02:07, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This entire article reads like a product guide, what should be the first steps taken in a case like this? Coccyx Bloccyx 19:30, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Make sure the company did not do it
Removed a lot of the marketing drivel, like "awesome" and "genuine K'NEX", etc. Made it much more like an article and less like an ad. -Stanfrnkln
I'm a fan of K'NEX, but this article (with the exception of a few segments) is in horrible condition. To me it looks like the K'NEX company took advantage of Wikipedia to post a catalog of products! Do you notice that they have current products, but not old things? Each of them even as an external list to where you can purchase it. A huge list of K'NEX tubs? I propose that this article be completely revamped.
  • Some of the information should just be deleted, and I think there should be a separate article called "K'NEX Pieces" where all of that can go.
  • The article could follow this outline:
    • A basic introduction
    • A history of the company and product.
    • A brief section on the peices.
      • Written in prose, not just a list.
      • A bit about how incredibly versatile the pieces are, with a picture example
    • A short section on Sets made by the K'NEX company, with a link to the K'NEX Sets article.
    • A bit about K'NEX art, like those giant models they showcase at places.
    • Perhaps a section about fan-built designs in general, with specific examples like the K'NEX Calculator or something completely different.
I think that's more than enough to get another article going. I've been a fan for 12 years, so I would like this article to be more like the Lego article in quality and information, not just some boring lists.--osrevad (talk) 18:11, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, so I completely revamped everything. It took forever, but it's starting to show some progress now. I moved a lot of stuff to the new K'NEX Pieces article. The new pictures on there were made by myself. I completely changed the face of the main article. If you're thinking about changing it back read this:
Of you look at past edits, it's clear that someone, perhaps K'NEX, came in and posted a whole lot of propaganda, complete with links to where you could buy each item on their website. Every description for each for each product was written in advertisement-speech. I know some of you tried to fix it by editing it, but I think it case where you are forced to start from scratch. Which is what I did. There's still a lot of work to do, but this article is going to be up to snuff with other article in the near future.osrevad (talk) 03:50, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Proof that it was a K'NEX insider: I went back and to the edit to where the marketing drivel was added. The IP Address was 12.164.71.194 which I looked up on find-ip-address.org. It located right where the headquarters of K'NEX happened to be, and according to that website: "IP Address Lookup for 12.164.71.194 show that IP belongs to: KNEX INDUSTRIES" Case Closed.--osrevad (talk) 01:02, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Inspiration[edit]

What reference says that K'NEX was inspired by Tinkertoys? All I can find is http://www.knex.com/about/history.php, which says that K'NEX was inspired by straws. BuilderQ

Straws and forks, that's what I hear. I was surprised to see that, too. Anyone want to verify the Tinkertoy claim? --Thebends 04:29, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Only the creator can say what actually inspired him, but K'NEX are very similar to Tinker Toys in basic design. They both rely heavily upon the 45 degree angle in the design of their building system, and they both organize their rods by color. -ErinHowarth 17:09, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think it comes frome the same basic design, just different materals

Rods section[edit]

The rods section should have physical lengths in inches and centimeters. Either that, or a picture of all the rods lined up with a scale. Relative lengths don't do much on their own. --Cryptic C62 · Talk 03:22, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rollercoaster[edit]

Could we please have a full photo of the giant rollercoaster so we can see exactly how big it is? I know it says that it is 32 ft and something-inches, but just I can't visualise it.

I have added a photo of the Particle Accelerator coaster just recently built. - Spikeorama 20:50, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have updated the text, it said:
  • Colossus was a former record holder for tallest K'NEX roller coaster.
It should either be 'is a former record holder' or 'was a record holder'. That's why I changed it to 'is a former record holder'. --81.205.12.59 (talk) 18:31, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Citations[edit]

"Most people find some of these roller coasters "Too easy" or "I'm tired of building the same thing". " definitely needs a citation. It is pure opinion. I will edit it out if no one edits in something to back that up BlackxxJapan 11:18, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I tried putting something on there and it would not let me so sorry, but if you give me your email I can email it to you. (If you want....) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joptopia (talkcontribs) 17:20, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rod length ratio[edit]

I added a note about the length of rods being when you measure from the hole of one connector to the hole of another and not the length of the rod itself. --D3matt (talk) 01:35, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

K'NEXK'Nex — According to Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Trademarks).—Jameswa21 (talk) 11:35, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Comment. I am not sure about this one: the all-caps version seems in fairly common use, suggesting that we may retain it. "K'nex" and "K'Nex" are apparently also used. Ucucha 11:02, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Per MOS:TM, "Follow standard English text formatting and capitalization rules even if the trademark owner considers nonstandard formatting "official"". TalkIslander 17:03, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It also says "choose the style that most closely resembles standard English". It is possible, though not established, that "standard English" here is "K'NEX"; in any case, I don't see why K'Nex would be preferable over K'nex. Ucucha 17:11, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, without prejudice to the case of the n. "Standard English" would have "K'NEX" read as "kayeneyex". 81.111.114.131 (talk) 22:56, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lincoln Logs licensing and distribution[edit]

I think there should be something on here about K'nex being the licensee and distributor of Lincoln Logs.RichardBond (talk) 22:49, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No mention of Micro K'Nex[edit]

Seems bizarre. When was it brought in? By which owners? I understand it's controversial within the K'Nex community, but Wikipedia shouldn't shy away from that. 79.71.1.38 (talk) 16:10, 5 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
