Needs rewording[edit]

If you're in the middle of Aberdeen and you need too be at the airport ... From the bus or railway stations, bus # 27 leaves from outside St Magnus house, just beside the bus station. It's about a 45 minute ride, traffic permitting. The bus is about once every hour and a half from 07:30 to 18:00. Outside those hours, taxi is your only option. Fare from city centre should be about £12-£15 (2004 prices). The train stops at Dyce, but that's on the opposite side of the airport to most of the terminals. It is of some use if you're flying from the "Scotia" helipads, but a waste of time if you're using the main ('public') terminal, the "Broomfield House" terminal (for fixed wings up to Shetland), or helicopters from the "Bristows" of "BIH" terminals. (The names of the companies change irregularly).

Airport size[edit]

There is a mistake in the first paragraph, Aberdeen is the 3rd largest airport in Scoltand and is comfortable ahead of it's next nearest challenger Prestwick, approx passengers figures for running yearly total are Aberdeen - 3m pax & Prestwick - 2.3m pax. This is based on current BAA and CAA figures.

Nautical miles?[edit]

"The airport is located in Dyce, approximately 5 nautical miles (9 km) northwest of Aberdeen city centre." Why nautical miles of all units? Without good reason, an encyclopedia should stick to more conventional units - either SI or some unit common locally (in the UK, road signs are marked with miles) or preferably both. --Rhebus 11:46, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nautical Miles are a conventional unit for air travel. As this is an airport nautical miles is appropriate. Kevgallacher (talk) 12:19, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

But in this case, the distance referred to is a local geographical distance on the ground and in the UK that ought to be expressed in miles (km).GraemeLeggett (talk) 16:15, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's not just the UK it's in other countries as well. In a lot of cases the only source is the Aeronautical Information Publication. For the most part they give the distance from the town in NM (sometimes km), the airport elevation in feet and the runway lengths in metres (except for Canada and US where runways are still in feet). One thing to note is that the AIP very rarely says where in the town the distance is measured from. What I usually do is if the only source is the AIP then I use that and convert. Unfortunately, the convert template is not set up to use the "flip" so that miles or kilometres can be used first. If the article already has a distance from town and is sourced to something else, such as the official airport site, then I won't change it or add the AIP distance. For example if this article was changed to use this as a source for the distance then I'm not going to be changing it back. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 16:43, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article format[edit]

Until recently this article was formatted to basically match the guidelines at WP:AIRPORTS. Recently however the formatting has been changed away from that, plus also basic Wikipedia Manual of Style recommendations (see WP:MOS). It is in all our interests to present a standard look to airport articles (and all articles). I have updated the article to match those guidelines again.

10 is more than enough for an airport of this size[edit]

I increased the number of routes shown on the the busiest route list from ten to thirty on the 11th of June.

Three weeks ago, on the 13th of June, another editor undid my changes saying that "10 is more than enough for an airport of this size".

I promptly posted the following on that editor's talk page "I notice you cut the list of busiest destinations at Aberdeen airport down to ten, which I think is not enough. Since we disagree, could you please point to any independent source for ascertaining how many is enough for a particular size airport."

Since that editor has not responded after three weeks, I am now going to revert that edit. Paulalexdij (talk) 20:29, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We need more than anecdotal evidence of these things, a standard which is never likely to be satisfied through presenting individual links.   • Oppose as Aberdeen Airport is far more common in use (even Dyce is probably more common locally). The legal name mentioned by the proposer is the name of the Operator, the aerodrome is certified under the name "Aberdeen". MilborneOne (talk) 17:01, 24 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Unsure Per MilborneOne and Dekimasu, if the "Aberdeen International Airport" is the company then that title is too narrow as the article is about the airport its self. However If as the name is marked on maps, that might make it an acceptable name per WP:COMMONNAME, but might well be best left as is. Crouch, Swale (talk) 09:36, 29 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
