Remark[edit]

I suspect that Strategic Data Architecture should really just be Data Architecture as the practice of data architecure should include strategies and techniques.Victortan 16:19, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Should this be under "Category:Data management"? siroχo 00:11, Jun 28, 2004 (UTC)

  • I made a category "Data management", since thats basically what this page was trying to be. This page should be expanded to talk about what the concept of data management is, rather than being a category-style page. siroχo 21:39, Jun 28, 2004 (UTC)

DM-BOK 2nd edition[edit]

DAMA International is working on a second edition of the Data Management DM-BOK (review until 4/2013, published in Q4/2013. One of the most important changes: "Data Governance is positioned as a unifying theory for all Data Management". In addition, the "history of Data Management in this article should be extended to cover also 1990-2010. Will come back to this with better time. [1]

Wrong statement![edit]

The statement "While data can exist as such, 'information' and 'knowledge' are always in the "eye" (or rather the brain) of the beholder and can only be measured in relative units." is not correct:

Data comes about through research, creation, gathering, and discovery. Information has context. Data is turned into information by … - organizing it so that we can easily draw conclusions - "presenting" it, such as making it visual or auditory (see Clark D. (2004), The Continuum of Understanding; retrieved January 30, 2009, from http://www.nwlink.com/~donclark/performance/understanding.html) So the happening that data becomes information is not happening in the brain of someone... data becomes information as soon as it is visualized in a meaningfull way! But the knowledge which can be gathered by someone from this information is happening in the brain. Jogi, 04 February 2009

What exactly makes "DAMA DMBOK Framework" a Framework ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.138.64.179 (talk) 00:36, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Comments[edit]

The first line reads "The monkeys definition provided by [[ppp] International, the professional organization for those in the data management profession..."

I'm pretty sure the monkeys did not define anything.

Also who provided the definition? I'm not certain what [[ppp] International stands for. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.92.147.104 (talk) 02:27, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV removed[edit]

Toned down Usage section, removed NPOV template. - RoyBoy 05:03, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Contact Data Management[edit]

Contact Data Management is not a functional area within the DAMA-DMBOK and should be removed. Database Development is a functional area within the DAMA-DMBOD and should be added.

desired updates[edit]

1) Capitalize Data Management (and remove the redirect) on this page and make all references to Data Management go here. 2) Updated according to last comments from McGlewR Susan at DAMA (talk) 23:11, 13 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No owner of this concept[edit]

This article accumulates name-drops of various organizations. "Data management" is a general concept and practice which no one owns. No organization should get a top billing for controlling this concept when every organization does it and there is no single authority.

I moved all the organization name drops and product offerings to the bottom and in its own section. These names could even be deleted for lack of reliable sources or at least moved to their own list article but for now I am pushing them down. Blue Rasberry (talk) 16:53, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
