Juniors & State Cup[edit]

I've added some sections to cover the NYC and State Cup teams as I think this kind of thing belongs in this page. I realise the page may be getting a bit long so maybe the history section can be its own page some time soon. Thoughts everyone? Also I've plonked the new bits afer history but happy to discuss where they should be assuming everyone is happy to keep them. Tigerman2005 (talk) 09:36, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Coaches[edit]

Adding a coaches section, as with all other NRL clubs --Cyclone James 08:00, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edits?[edit]

Who took it upon themselves to remove large sections of this article without discussion? It is rude and not appreciated. The material needed to be developed but a paragraph on previous seasons (given there are only 7 at this stage) is not overblown. The point is though, you should discuss your deletion fetish (and its deleting not editing really) before you do so on these lines. Your view may turn out to have support but what you did was wrong IMHO. I am reinstating deleted portions. Please leave them until there is discussion - Tigerman2005 (23/2/7)

Also do not change the player list unless you know what you are talking about. There is a reason I deleted Scott Prince and replaced him with John Morris. Scott Prince plays with the Titans now. Leave it alone unles you are adding detail or correcting an error.

2006[edit]

Since its now 07 and the 06 season was pretty dismal anyway I think it could be reduced in size aomewhat, the individual game headers are a bit much. Thoughts? - Tigerman2005 (May 8)

Agreed. Some clubs have articles that detail previous seasons, so you might wanna just move the information there so none is lost.--Jeff79 19:45, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Done. 2006 now has its own article. I will edit down the 2006 part on the main page since nobody seems to object! Tigerman2005 13:47, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Tigerman2005 (21/5/7)[reply]

Pounds and pence[edit]

I'd like to amend the weight section in the current player list to show kgs followed by stone/pounds rather than the way it is listed now, if no-one minds. I've never seen pounds abbreviated to 'p' before and most readers would relate more to st/lbs that just pounds, wouldn't they? Unless they are from the U.S. Florrie 05:59, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was about to start editing the weight details for the current players but why do we need the weights, height, nicknames etc on the Club page at all? This is all information that can be covered on the individual player page in the player info box, if not in the text. A simple table with player name, country of origin and position would be much cleaner. The pages for Brisbane Broncos (good article), Sydney Roosters (featured article) and Rabbitohs (A-class article) use this format as do others. Florrie 14:30, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
See the sandbox for proposed table with corrected links.Florrie 15:18, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Replaced old list with rugby league squad template as no objections raised. Old list saved to sandbox for reference/cross-matching info on player pages. Florrie 14:48, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good although (and this is not your fault) its so hard to tell the difference between the Aus and NZ flags! I haven't had a chance to look at the page for weeks so its good to see someone else take an interest. I think next project would be a box with every season like say the Canberra page. Just simple stuff like W/L Pts, position etc. Tigerman2005 2 July 2007

Yes, that'd be good. I've half got one done on the Tim Sheens entry (as in, half the info is already there, not that the Sheens table is half done!) Wouldn't take me long to do one up for the Tigers with the additional information. I'll have a look at it in the next day or two. Florrie 13:06, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Wests Tigers are the only team that has never lost a finals match."[edit]

I beg to differ, the Crushers, Rams, Mariners, Reds, NEagles, 'Dales and poor old Cumberland haven't either :P —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.168.213.117 (talk) 11:53, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page revision[edit]

Not saying anything is wrong with it but is anyone interested in discussing some of the sections to see if any revision/editing needs to be done? I'd love to get this thing up to a really high standard. Tigerman2005 (talk) 13:27, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

SpecialWindler just did a heap of work on the history in the last few weeks and made the uniform graphics for the page. I want to expand the Stadium and uniforms section and I think I'd like to see the player records/teams of the century etc on a separate page. I also have articles for Craig Field and Norm Robinson on my to-do list. What do you propose? Florrieleave a note 10:13, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think the page is looking a lot better these says. I agree with your suggestions about team of the century and player records. I would change 'context' to background and possibly reword parts of it - mention Wests move from Lidcombe to Campbelltown and how they were kicked out of the NSWRL. Also as I suggested the map is wrong. 1908 Wests were closer to the city. I was a Balmain Football club member and I don't even remember merger with Gold Coast being seriously considered. Parramatta yes. Maybe the final paragraph should be moved into an "early years" chapter. It just seems to me the playing section should be separate from the off field stuff. SCG home ground[edit]

don't think so? they hardly play any games, it is only used for special one off NRL games. Michellecrisp (talk) 11:14, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

They were suppose to play twice this year (St George and Souths) but the Dragons game had to be moved to the SFS. Anyway point is the decision to play there was made by WT management (not the NRL), they are designated WT home games so it counts as a home ground. Tigerman2005 (talk) 01:15, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

far from it. home grounds implies that they also train there. some NRL "home" games are moved occassionally to Central Coast Stadium, that does not make it a home ground. There is no reference to west tigers on the SCG official website. Only the Sydney Swans and NSW cricket side are official home sides. I'm removing it from this article. Michellecrisp (talk) 04:59, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Implies? On your reasoning ANZ should also be removed! Wests Tigers train at Concord Oval and only on special occasions at Leichhardt and Campbelltown. I agree with the removal of the SCG as a 'home ground' but not your logic. Florrieleave a note 06:07, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
not necessarily train there, but most clubs do train at one of their "home grounds" ok sometimes on special occasions. The easiest test is to see if it's listed on the club's official website, or the ground's official website. SCG fails on 2 counts for Wests Tigers. Michellecrisp (talk) 13:11, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No you're creating your own conditions for a home ground. SCG may no longer be listed on their website because the team has no more games there - that doesn't mean it was in the past. Your other argument is severly flawed. Souths train at Mascot so do they have no home ground? As Florrie points out the club hardly ever train anywhere apart from Concord. For all we know the WT might have trained at the SCG before the Souths game. If its not a home ground, how do you regard the SCG? It's in the same boat at ANZ Stadium, it's listed as a home game and the club decided to play it there. It really depands what you consider a "home ground". I'm not right, you're not right - it is a matter of opinion. Can you have a home game not on a home ground? My other gripe is your rapid and unilateral decision to remove it. That's not really the way to do things - Wikipedia is not your exclusive domain. It is far better to do things by consensus. I don't care enough about this issue to do a revert but you should realise people like Florrie put a lot of effort into this page and you should let a debate run its course before making changes. Its really not THAT important that you needed to rush into it. Tigerman2005 (talk) 13:24, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Florrie, being a training ground is not the qualification for home ground status, but you need to understand that SCG is definitely not a home ground for Wests Tigers, saying otherwise is original research. ANZ stadium is a designated home ground for several teams, check its website http://www.anzstadium.com.au/AboutUs.aspx .The SCG website lists Sydney Swans and NSW Cricket side as home teams. SCG is not the same boat as ANZ stadium, the official websites clearly demonstrate this. No argument here, this is not opinion. Michellecrisp (talk) 03:16, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You clearly have no idea what original research is. Fact is, there is no agreed determination of what a home ground is. It is easy to demonstrate through evidence that the Wests Tigers used the SCG for a home game this season. On that basis alone it is by definition a home ground, a ground which hosted a home game. It was not dictated by the NRL because of the centenary year, it was the club's choice. It is not the grounds who decide, it is the club itself. Anyway you miss the point, its your attitude that is the bigger problem rather than the homeground issue. Tigerman2005 (talk) 13:58, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please resist comments on editors and comment on topic, see WP:NPA. Original research is inventing a definition that a home ground " a ground which hosted a home game". Central Coast Stadium, Westpac Stadium and North Sydney Oval have been used as grounds for NRL games, these are not home grounds either. You are making up a definition that suits WP:FANCRUFT. there is nowhere on the official SCG website which says it's an official home ground for the Tigers. Michellecrisp (talk) 00:50, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To me Wests have two home grounds and they play games at ANZ stadium in the same way that alot of clubs do. I am happy to have ANZ on there as there appears to be a consistent link with Wests playing there every year, the same cannot be said of the SCG.Londo06 09:43, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

very simple. If they choose to play their designated home games there, than it is one of their home grounds. Back in the days before the SFS, all the best football was played at the SCG and both clubs have cultural connections to the ground due to the fact that Balmain won 11 grand finals there and wests won 4 grand finals there, plus the countless matches of the week that both were involved in there. They are hardly trying to capture new fans there, unlike the central coast et alia games, so it is one of their home grounds. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.172.251.46 (talk) 14:31, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Layout of current squad[edit]

Why are there now nationalities for the current squad? I'm not sure why these would be necessary. I would think the matter would be better addressed on the individuals pages. There are no citations & some of the listed nationalities appear to be wrong. Wouldn't Skandalis & Galloway be considered Australian?

I'd favour reverting to the previous layout for the current squad, but being somewhat of a newbie I thought it best to raise the matter here. Doctorhawkes (talk) 02:53, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'd support getting rid of the flags. Just so you know at MOS:FLAGS they state that we should use sporting nationality, which in this case would be whatever national team they qualify for/have played for. Seeing as both have played city/country I'd say they are Australian, although there would also be an argument for Greece for Skandalis. Mattlore (talk) 05:01, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've reverted to the no-flag version of the team list. If anyone is keen to find out more about a footballer, they can visit the player's article where things such as nationality or playing nationality can be properly sourced.  florrie  15:33, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think it is better to have the flags. It makes it a lot quicker and easier to check the nationality of each player in the team. Anyway, it is not like information is being deleted, there is just more information being added on. Every other NRL team's Wikipedia page uses this format except for Penrith Panthers. The nationalities are actually correct, based on their representative teams and place of birth. Also, when you have it displayed this way the left side of the squad displays the first choice starting 13. Another thing is that in the old version Daine Laurie and David Gower are not included despite the fact that they are members of the current team and have both played for Wests Tigers in 2009. Could you please leave the flags, they are very helpful to me and others.
60.241.41.15 (talk) 12:47, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The nationalities are actually correct - unfortunately this is not always the case - the flags are the subject of a lot of vandalism and are not necessary to the makeup of the team. If you want to find out the nationality or representative availability of a player, you can find that info on their article.
the first choice starting 13 - this varies throughout the season so it may only be correct for the first few weeks of a season. Listing the players alphabetically makes the list easier to manage/add to, particularly when players are moved around positionally - as happens a lot with the Tigers.
The squad template is being discussed at Wikiproject Rugby League. [1]  florrie  05:18, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As for squad members, I have updated the list to reflect the source. [2] This will no doubt be added to over the next few months.  florrie  05:41, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Now why did you undo that? All material has to be verifiable. If the source we are using gives a squad list, then that is what should be shown here. Apparently the squad page has been updated to remove players who have not been contracted for 2010. If they are returned to the Tigers squad page, they can be returned to the article. Otherwise it's original research.  florrie  11:55, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've added the trial template to both the main article and 2009 Wests Tigers season. I've also changed the source although I need to find another source that tells me Lazarus and Dunley were selected in the original 25. I know they were there at the beginning of 2009, but as the WT squad page has been updated in preparation for 2010, the ref is no longer reliable. Later on (when it's less likely to be deleted) we can do up the 2010 template for the 2010 page and this main article.  florrie  01:08, 12 October 2009 (UTC) PS, there is still discussion on the template at the project.[3][reply]

Records and stats[edit]

We have a page for club records - List of Wests Tigers records - and I would like to suggest that we move the player records section of tables from the main article here to the records page, with a link. If you have a look at the Sydney Roosters article, which has featured article status, there is a text section for records [4] with a link to their List of Sydney Roosters records article. It is certainly more readable and would de-clutter our main article. The other thing we need for records and stats is references! Any thoughts?  florrie  01:32, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Makes sense to me. The best reference for records is the annual year book that Middleton does. Haven't come across anything online that is updated on a regular basis. Doctorhawkes (talk) 11:32, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Players of Note[edit]

What is the criteria to be considered a player "of note"? I'm surprised Cayless would be listed before he has played a game. Doctorhawkes (talk) 02:18, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've been wondering, too, since the addition of Cayless. It appears to be very subjective. To be honest, I don't know why there are current players on the list at all and I'm not sure what some of the other players have done to gain notability. If we went on Wikipedia's idea of "notability" every former player would be there. I'm more inclined to delete the section and leave the combined Team of Legends, which is verifiable and the representative players, also verifiable.  florrie  02:34, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Current Squad[edit]

The dialog box that has the current squad details in it appears to be uneditable. The squad has been finalised and isn't accurate in this wiki entry. You can find the current 34 man NRL squad at http://www.weststigers.com.au/default.aspx?s=profile-player. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.214.123.145 (talk) 06:33, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The game of rugby league began - ?[edit]

"The game of rugby league began in 1908 as the New South Wales Rugby League premiership (NSWRL) which had nine teams from the Sydney, Australia area." Eh? It began in England in 1895. 1908 was when it reached Australia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.104.89.166 (talk) 11:47, 29 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
