Print shop?[edit]

In episode 50 (Season 3: Episode 6) of the television series Lex Luthor's father Lionel Luthor reveals that he grew up in Suicide Slum and spent some time "moonlighting" at a "print shop".

I don't understand this. I mean, I can see why it's worth mentioning that Lionel Luthor grew up in Suicide Slum, but what's the significance of his having "spent some time 'moonlighting' at a 'print shop'"? (And why the scare quotes around "moonlighting" and "print shop"?) --Paul A 03:10, 20 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Well, with this kind of TV show they like to tease the viewer with little clues hinting at which direction the future storyline might go. I mean, it's part of the entertainment value of the show. So when the writers put these words into the mouth of Lionel Luthor having him mention the "print shop" it seems odd that they've bothered to include such a line in the script --- unless it means something. The most likely thing it could mean is a link between Lionel Luthor and the Newsboy Legion, such as maybe he was one of the NL himself when he was a boy. But it isn't certain to have that meaning since it's only a teaser line. Anyway, that was why I mentioned it, assuming that most people bothering to read an encyclopedia entry on a comicbook character would be interested in this kind of anorak clue. Maybe not though, whatever... The current rewrite looks okay :-)

The obvious thing to me is to put all that stuff in the article. After all, this is an encyclopaedia. Just mention it was likely a potential plot seed for future stories (that never came to fruition). sheridan 23:10, 2005 May 31 (UTC)

Lacey[edit]

I believe in the DC Heroes Role Playing game, the real name of Suicide Slum was "Lacey", not "Hobb's Bay". I don't have the game handy. Can anyone confirm this? ShawnVW 03:48, 12 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmed. I still have my copy, and that volume certainly refers to it by that name. The comics creators, however, exercised creative privilege in order to change the name as of 1986. - Dwight Williams
