Old Well at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

1789 – The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (structure pictured), one of the oldest public universities in the United States and the only one to award degrees in the 18th century, was chartered.
1886 – The London-based football club Arsenal, then known as Dial Square, played their first match on the Isle of Dogs.
1920 – Irish War of Independence: Following an Irish Republican Army ambush of an Auxiliary patrol, British forces burned and looted numerous buildings in Cork.
2006 – Criticized worldwide as a "meeting of Holocaust deniers", the International Conference to Review the Global Vision of the Holocaust opened in Tehran.

Why do all the nationalities dissapear? Not that I particularly like the style suggested at Historical anniversaries/Example but I do like that the nationalites are given, even though only for the birth dates... --Tobias Hövekamp

OK, I guess, I was just mislead by reading 'Country' in Historical anniversaries/Example. Anyhow, why not adding them? --Tobias

Better to concentrate on the things they are famous for, I think. Nationality, height, shoe size, etc., can be left for the main article.

1917: Lithuania declares its independence from the Soviet Union[edit]

Is it correct to talk about the Soviet Union in Dec 1917? Also, History of Lithuania has nothing special for this date. –User:Hajor 05:32, 11 Dec 2003 (UTC)

No, the Soviet Union was formed as a result of the russian revolution during WW1, and this date is before then. However, Lithuania probably did declare independence at some point after this, I suspect this year is the wrong one given. Homestarmy 19:07, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reversion of Murugan Thiruchelvam's birthday[edit]

Can someone explain to me why the addition of Murugan Thiruchelvam's birthday was reverted? I can understand that you'd do it if he weren't notable and the whole article got deleted, but if he's worth including at all, why not his birthday?

3 Inches of Snow?[edit]

The Conquest Of Mecca[edit]

Wikipedia’s entry on the Prophet’s conquest of Mecca, says his force started set out on the invasion, on the 29th November, 630 AD^[1]: but doesn’t give a date for the invasion’s climax.

Can we have that clarified, please … ?

Births and deaths[edit]

In accordance with the guidelines, I've started weeding the Births and Deaths sections by removing entries for celebrities with 0-4 articles in other languages. Where possible, these have been transferred to the relevant Year in Topic articles. As well as making the lists more manageable, this will help with the globalization effort.
