I understand the intent, but to me it sounds a bit critical and out of place in the introduction. Quality assessments are difficult to make on Wikipedia anyway. Sir, while I respect your opinion on the matter, I am not making edits to impress one editor, but rather to build the encyclopedia based on the wishes of all the Wikipedia collaborators. If consensus is demonstrated to be against the category, I will be the first to help remove the tags (although I imagine that a bot would likely be employed by others with coding skills greater than mine). Until that time as such consensus is demonstrated, I will continue to add what I view as constructive edits. Stop removing useful links

I have seen you remove 2 useful external links now that were to sites that provide a great resource to people wanting to visit a specific destination. These sites are not commercial beyond contextual advertisements that may or may not make the site authors any money. Why is it that you insist on calling any external link a spam link? Have you taken the care to read through the sites that you call spam? Please do so before you remove a link - you may learn that there are useful sites outside of Wikipedia - and heaven forbid if the site owners try to pay for the cost of running the sites.

Response to Pavel on Bali links - I agree that Planet Mole may be too broad. BaliBlog is far more than a chit-chat site - at least more than the "I've been to Bali Too" site that is also linked to that page. If you get some time, read around the BaliBlog site - there is alot of good information. It was just upsetting to see you call them spam in the Edit Summary

JJStroker and I have made an agreement to remove the red links and place them on a type of "To Do" page. So that way more people will notice (maybe) and they can come and fill up the links. Prague Spring

Hi. Perhaps I did write a bit too much, but that is only because I feel more familiar with this particular section of the events. I think it is relevant to the story: Romania almost got into war at that point, and over the same issue. In fact, public oppinion in your country was, for a brief moment, finding hope in a Romanian friend (I also attempted to explain why Ceausescu's attitude was more conjectural than anything). They aired archive footage on some Romanian station a while back (I also have a description of it in a Romanian historical magazine): it was a, well, propaganda film (not the pejorative meaning of "propaganda"), one shot by the tv station in your country during those days (I believe it had taken refuge someplace in Western Czechia, and later crossed the border). It had a voice-over that spoke perfect Romanian, with only the tiniest of accents. The very emotional man was praising Socialist brothers for opposing imperialism etc. During this, they showed footage of the invasion. I think this attitude is unique, and deserves a detailed account of parallelisms. For a while (and even way before the events, with the much media-covered visits by Tito and Ceausescu to Prague) it looked like a three-pronged alliance had been formed. Since the article depicts the prudent response in the West, it should also show where Czechoslovak hopes were being directed. Of course (as noted), the other two states had very different agendas. This being said (and not to mean that my phrases cannot be trimmed a bit), the article could do with more details for the events themselves. An account of the clandestine airings of your tv channels, reference to the prolific graffiti works and posters (perhaps many of them are not public domain), one to the themes in such mediums (from the weeping Lenin to the blunt "Ivan, go home"), etc. - all of these could contribute while allowing my paragraph to remain and not seem "obese" in comparison. To summarise: a Romanian connection was of capital importance, the Romanian response was a major event in itself, and the article could do with more insights in its other chapters. Why are you talking about Praque Spring and I can't find any article? Should I look up Praque? I do after I leave this note here. If so, I think the Praque Spring would deserve a separate article. Here is something to add: Alan Ginsburgh was elected King of May by Prague students but was not allowed to leave his plane. So he couldn't join the students and celebrate with them. Fatherland

Good point. The term "otčina" appears quite rarely nowadays, so it did not come on my mind, but it exists therefore should be mentioned on such a list.

I think the reason, why somebody founded this entry, was to gather only languages, where the term is derived from the word "father", not to gather translations into all possible languages. Despite this it can still seem quite useless for most people, but I can imagine that somebody might be interested in such a list.

Have a good day and sorry to bozher you. After some individuals started to "discuss" the present situation in the cs:wiki on the pages of Meta etc. Once more again (see ) I would just like to ask you for help for the cs:wiki. Maybe I will bother you but I mean this seriously.
As you probably may know, I was a user (since May 2004) and also a sysop (since Nov 2004) in the cs:wiki. After I have been several times heavilly attacked by some individuals saying I have been a collaborator and bolschevik member of the communist secret police StB, and after these people did start to publish this worldwide in internet (beside this: my family was persecuted in CSSR, I was living in West Germany beeing active for the Opposition there), I requested to be desysopped and do not work for cs:wiki any more. By the way, in last days there were two members of arbcom who resigned and another sysop who requested his desysop. More users and sysops declared to stop their activities.
Nevertheless: Both groups of these people do continue their attack on the cs:wiki as a whole and I am afraid, that the cs:wiki is in a very difficult stage and I am not sure if it will manage this, as the last weeks and months showed, that their reactions on such attacks are very "human " and "democratic" – say kind, not resolute enough. The groups I speak about are:

• cs:User:Vít Zvánovec and cs:User:Tompecina, first one now beeing arbitred, whom you maybe know from some other conflicts
• certain Mr. Ross Hedvicek, in cs:wiki cs:User:Rosta, an emigree living in Florida, known as a notorious spammer (see cs:Ross Hedvíček) and mainly an extremist author of very controversary statements on politics, with some dozens of people from his CS-Club (at least 10 are registered in cs:wiki); one of the worst internet culture I have ever seen

So this the situation. I would like to help cs:wiki in this difficult stage, as the attacks now reached the pages of Meta, and I will try to engage some steward like Anthere or Datrio to do something. But anyway, although I resigned as sysop in cs:wiki, i can tell you (or them) something and you can believe me or not. I know you as somebody who knows the czech community a bit and who can understand it, but somebody who is not engaged there. If you can a bit, see please at my page here, where you will find some links, and if you find something which could be helpful so comment it there, Anthere and Datrio or others will get the address as well.
Sorry for bothering you with this problems, but i think you could have some interest to solve it. For answers to me you can use only either my page in de:wiki de:Benutzer:-jkb- or the same in wikisource.org where I am still a sysop; my e-mail is deleted in all wikis but not in wikisource.org (at present). In the cs:wiki you can contact the bureaucrat cs:User:Ludek.

The issue I am concerned about with keeping the link is that it is not what is typically considered an acceptable primary source -- it's just some person's BLOG. I am a history student with a planned focus on Germany; I more than agree the topic is important to talk about, and knwo about. Bohemians, Moravians, Czechs etc.

Thanks for your comments. At the Opera Project we normally follow the New Grove Dictionary of Opera when it comes to nationalities. (This is what we did in the case of Gassmann. Gluck is another example.) The idea is to use the affiliation that the individual himself/herself would have chosen (hence we use Flemish, Alsatian, Bohemian etc.), however this can admittedly be difficult to determine when musicians lived such international lives. Maybe Gassmann would have wanted to be called 'Viennese'? Kleinzach 09:52, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

"Nonsense"?

i'm quite puzzled as to why you think i am adding nonsense to wikipedia. The edits I made to the General Motors Corsa article are legitimate and illustrate the headlamps on the said vehicle and a modification to it. i realise i may have inadvertently removed two images and i was attempting to work out how to replace them when you rolled back my edits calling them nonsense.

this was a good faith edit genuinely made in the hope of improving the article, and I encourage you to look at the page on this, Wikipedia:Vandalism which says:

"Any good-faith effort to improve the encyclopedia, even if misguided or ill-considered, is not vandalism."

i assumed this was the only edit i had made until i checked my contributions and found some "strange" edits. i can only assume these were made by someone using my machine (i'm at college)

apart from accidentally removing two images which i later tried to replace, i fail to see how i added nonsense to the wikipedia when i am only a new user trying to learn and contribute to it. if this is how you treat all newbies then i fear for those joining the project.

I have checked them out, and the connection appears tenuous at best. I have added {{fact}} tags where needed and cleaned up the formatting a bit. So far only one paragraph has been properly verified. The page on Vietnamese people sources Vietnamese-Czechs at almost 25 000, though still a negligable number. You should fix the demographic page then, if you think it is that insufficient. Are you familiar with Praha? Are ethnic enclaves distinct in Praha, or are minorities spread all across the city? I have heard of the "Little Hanoi", but is it a distant part of the city? List of East European Jews

Well, they don't want to give up this stupid categorizing. What they've conceded so far is separate lists (they are linked to the main page). It's hard to convince American users that the world does not fold up neatly along categories, and that you have no chance of making a list short. For Chrissake, they have a List of Holocaust victims and a Category:Socialists! Hopefully, things'll get sorted out in time. What I resent about "Central" Europe is the inevitable notion that such a pattern is defining of "civilization" (I mean, the very notion and readiness to fit in it belongs to various nationalisms in the area); plus, mty own country is "orphan" - I mean, the same people designed a notional Balkans (according to the same wishful thinking), and decided that Romania does not belong in there. Your alert would be better placed on Administrator intervention against vandalism (WP:AIV), where it will usually be processed within minutes. Many alerts that are incorrectly placed on Vandalism in Progress are never dealt with, simply because they become old before an administrator gets to them. Diacritics for sorting keys of categories

It is better NOT to use diacritics for sorting key of categories. It sometimes results in quite funny arrangement of items, very unexpected for both Czech and English reader. Pavel Vozenilek 22:28, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

I can't help more with the article, as my knowledge is meek. I think you are wrong abot categories: featured articles have many, and specific, cats; there are regular demands on Category:[insert country] writers to include people listed in more specific cats, so as to avoid overpopulation (which helps no one). I don't any cat link I posted there is redundant, and all offer a good insight. "Natives of..." is a common cat, and I tried to apply it to all articles I've been translating from Italian wiki (mainly, about Fascist personalities). Dahn 01:09, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Czech Rep

Thankyou for your message.

I must disagree, a country's name does deserve to be at the top of an article on the country.

The use is minimal, but it is used, and the country's government says it is the name.

To say it "hasn't caught on in English" is not encyclopedic language and is vague. I have heard it several times, and it is a reintroduction of an old term.

You wish to remove my cross reference to Roma people in my entry on Black Patch Park. I think I understand your reasons but i wonder if i could say a little more on this subject which is rather dear to my heart and may perhaps persuade you that the entry was not a casual one, but I do realise this is a v.sensitive issue. The history of this park - threatened with being built over - revolves around the way the Romany were evicted from it in the 1900s. A long term friend of my late father - a Gypsy and campaigner for Gypsy rights and author of a book on Gypsies of the New Forest - Len Smith - has told me that Black Patch Park is well known in Romany History in UK. We now have the irony that the present campaign to save the park is being assisted by the descendents of the very Romany families who were forcibly evicted from the Black Patch to create a park for new industrial workers. This is a story of reconciliation that runs through the campaign to save this lovely green space with its long traditions as a refuse and settlement for Gypsy people. Is this case not worthy of a x-reference between Black Patch and Roma people? By the way it was Len who vetted my original account and said "Gypsy" was polite - if used with a capital G. I noticed that in CFD you left a comment indicating you were voting that a number of odd, empty categories created by newbie User:Oscark should be deleted, but didn't actually affix your vote to them individually, presumably because you assumed this would be a no-contest vote. Similarly I didn't bother to vote because it seemed obvious they'd be got rid of. However, to my great surprise, a number of "Keep" votes have emerged, and to prevent any confusion it might be worth you actually going through the formality of affixing your vote individually to the categories you wanted deleted. Well, I'm not Pavel, but I'm also native czech speaker. It really could be translated this way but only by some software translator ... because it absolutely misses the point - it is translated without context (except for Harant is really Bastard). Furthermore the only place where it can be seen is on czech joke sites, so I think it's not "official" translation.

Hello Pavel! Regarding the questioned edit to East Colonisation, it is part of translated text from de:Deutsche Ostsiedlung (the Schlesien section). User:Imiraven did the initial translations, followed by the edits by 203.160.1.47; it is possible that Imiraven was accidentally logged out when the larger section was added. Regardless of the actual translator, the edits do seem to have been done in good faith. I will try to wikify and copyedit the material when I have time.

Regarding adminship, it is not something I have really given much thought to. I approach it the same way Piotrus does- having the mop and bucket is useful, but not that big a deal. I'm not terribly familiar with the guides listed at the top of RfA yet, so I need to understand the listed policies first. Right now would not be a good time for me to undergo the procedure, but I will certainly consider it once I have more free time. I do thank you for considering me worthy of adminship. On the personal note, my sister who lives in the Netherlands used to be married to a Czech guy. Many years ago, while visiting, I mentioned this issue. Her husband got red in his face, started to scream that I lie, and kicked me out of the house. He is dead now, but I still remember this event vividly. Nick Peros Wikipedia article

Thank you for your note to me re. the Nick Peros Wikipedia article that I have recently contributed. The Nick Peros article was contributed because Nick Peros is a notable contemporary classical composer that meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines, not as a vehicle for promotion.

In the notability guidelines for music, Wikipedia states that any artist that has had a record certified gold or higher in at least one large or medium-sized country meets notability requirements. CRIA is the Canadian Recording Industry Association and is the body that giverns Record Certifictaion in Canada. If you go to the following link on the CRIA website:

you can verify that O Canada- A Canadian Celebration is certified Platinum, as stated in the last paragraph of the Wikipedia Nick Peros article. Platinum Certification is a higher certifictaion than Gold, and as such meets that notability guideline.

In your your comments on the notability notice that you mention in the history section of the article, you refer to “claims of positive criticism”, implying that the positive criticisms listed in the article may not be accurate. For each critique listed in the article I have included a citation reference noting the name of the publication, the name of the reviewer and the date of publication. Most of these critiques/reviews are from hard copy newspaper reviews, however one of these critiques is from Classics Today. Classics Today is an internationally recognized and peer reviewed classical music site that focuses on critique and review of classical CD’s, and is often cited as a source for reliable and professional classical music critique by artists and major labels alike. I noticed that you have removed some of the internal Wikipedia links for Nick Peros to other articles, citing self-promotion as the reason. Once again, I want to affirm that promotion was not the reason for making those links, but rather because I believe that the links are relevant links to the subject of each article- for example, the Emily Bronte link was included to show that Bronte's neglected poetry is receiving growing atention, and some of Nick Peros' vocal compositions are in fact the first time that some of her poetry has ben set to music; likewise with the Housman and Motet link, to show that this poet and compositonal genre are still active and relevant, and evident in Peros' music. However, I do understand that such links could have an appearance of promotion, and so I will defer to your judgement on that. However, I would like to ask you, upon verifying the subject notability as referrenced above, to reinstate the Nick Peros info in the following articles: List of 20th Century Classical Compsoers, List of 21st Century Classical Composers; List of Composers for Classical Guitar; List of Composers for Solo Piano.

Regardless, Austrians/Germans born in Czechia are no more Czech than American-born Czechs (who are not included). Some people like Kafka should obviously be included (for his contributions in Prague) but others like Mendel (and Freud for example) I am doubtful about. I'm only saying we should caution ourselves when adding people from Bohemia.

As for the name January; there exists January Suchodolski. I'm not sure why exactly Kozeluh was referenced with it. How do you speedy delete? Antidote

I generally agree, especially with the Czech American part. I am unsatisfied with the statistics on the Czech page, stating that 1.2 million Czechs live in the US, especially when a majority of those are "2 or more responses" registrations. Only, lets say, 500,000 at most are majority-blooded Czechs, and of those only 300,000 probably know anything about their Czechness or speak the language. I wish there was a way to cut it down to the 500,000 that count and aren't be repeated for other nationalities. Regardless, the 300,000 or so Czech-Americans who are aware of their Czechness should have their significants listed here if the opportunity presents itself. Anyway, as I did with my work on the Serbs articles, I need translation help. Mind translating cs:Antonín Slavíček to Antonín Slavíček? It's pretty short. Ignore grammar and images and such, I will fix that. Antidote

100,000 wouldn't surprise me in the least either. What's worse than the Czech number is the 8.9 million Poles number. Not only does the number include Polish-Ukrainians and Polish Jews (many of whom don't even identify with Poland), but almost more than half of them number is composed of 2-or-more response registrations. Anyone who happens to have a Polish grandfather is automatically added to this number. It ends up repeating tons of nationalities.

Frankly speaking his edits are both wrong and right. He is on some editing spree arguing that every single person who had something to do with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (for instance his/hers ancestors lived there several hundred years before) is Lithuanian. While in some cases it is right (notice the difference between self-consciousness of people from GDL and modern Lithuanians), in others is wrong. Well, when I started the Polish NB there were only 2 or 3 others interested users, and even now we are below 10. Expulsion of Germans after World War II

I had given up editing the page long time ago (and occasinal comparison with some versions more than a year old was a constant source of pesimism - despite hundreds edits the page moved virtually nowhere). However, I've noticed Richard's recent efforts, and the page actually improving. He seems to be patient and bold enough in dealing with trolls and genuinely trying to create good NPOV article, so I felt moral obligation to help a bit. One sentence pointers to reference aren't that tiresome (and I'm not going to engage in disscussion again... I've learned like the page staying in the same state for years, also the attitude of most avid editors didn't changes [17] )--Wikimol 09:49, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Would you mind if I re-amend the sentence about Svatopluk Čech, which I wrote originally. In English, we wouldn't say "from Svatopluk Čech" (even if the Germans use "von" here), but "by SC", or "of SC". Also, the clause "the author himself makes an appearance in a vision near the start of Act 3" shouldn't be joined to the previous sentence by a comma. It should be linked by "and" or it should be a separate sentence. It seemed polite to mention this to you rather than just re-editing, especially as your English is much better than my Czech (which consists almost entirely of words from Janáček's operas and The Bartered Bride - things like "pivo" and "S podmínkou"!). -GuillaumeTell 18:05, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Pavel! To answer your question: categories only contain existing articles, a template (or a list for that matter) also includes those that do not yet exist but should definitely be created. It is easier to navigate through a template than it is via a category. And, of course, templates are pretty :) For additional points in favor of "colored boxes", see Wikipedia:Navigational templates. Since we just had a similar discussion just above, I thought I'd pipe in: I think the changes made the page more useful as a disambiguation page, while it might have reduced the amount of information. Disambiguation pages are intended to get you to the page you want quickly. As such it provides what information it is necessary to know which link to click and not more. To be honest, I don't know anything about Chanov/Rudolice nad Bílinou, so I can't offer an opinion. It's always a tough call when the commonly used name and the official name don't match. One problem however you fail to address when you say it should "consider the weight of the argument" is that is a totally subjective measure and not useful when determining the will of the community. Just because you may think your argument has weight doesn't mean users B, C and D agree. They may consider another argument to have greater weight. If we were to go to a weighted argument system admins would end up taking ulimate control of the project based on their subjective interpretation of the weight of arguments. That would be truly unacceptable. Also you are correct that the "stigma" of having caused a disruption can stick with someone (however I don't believe there has been an instance I've disrupted wikipedia enough to have such a stigma). Thanks for your help with editing the page. The town I was referring to is not ficticious, it's a town called Planá in the west of the Czech Republic. Saying it was near Karlovy Vary was probably a mistake and misleading on my part. It is in fact closer to Plzen. No mate I think you understood me . I mean set up regional categories then set up the district categories within them. Then villages will be listed by district in the regional categories. Then there shouldn't be any villages in the regional page because they are all sub headed. I did make the mistake of listing them in both in the Banska Bystrica Region and the regiuonal count was way too overcrowded this will be corrected in due course. Over 6200 villages!! Definately DEFINATELY needs to be localized!!!!!! There is no way you can have 6,000 plus articles in one big category.. Hi yes I agree that the category:.....district is wise but they need to be organized into strong regional categories - modernization. ..... district is useful as a category to include different features e.g lakes and rivers but there also needs to be a sub category within this category for villages to make some distinction of settlements in Czech.

Hi I have looked at the categories of Czech districts and they are fine. HOWEVER, I have notcied that articles have not yet been crested for each district. In Slovakia all of the districts in each region have seperate articles with maps and a list of their municpalities. It would be extremely helpful if you could start them and find data for them. The ability to have primary and (visually distinguished) secondary categories is sorely lacking but consider how hard is to push any changes through Wikipedia (due to MediaWiki shortcomings, the process of making changes "official" and resistance by typical editors). Even the stable versions, promised for years, didn't materialize yet...

Yes; even with issues of consensus etc aside, I can see from Bugzilla that patching problems is more than enough work for the developers (or single overloaded developer Brion VIBBER...?) so there seems no chance for enhancements such as the above (or formaliz/sing the inclusion of metadata, or the current JavaScript hack that implements a degree of sorting in tables, or...). I've heard there is a "Summer of Code" that tries to address this problem – I think that's it's focus...? – but, as Wikipedia becomes ever more of a landmark on the internet, I'm wondering if paying some developers to code is needed... Ophelia Benson is a well-known published author, not merely a blogger (although she is probably notable as a blogger, too). Her two books are listed by title in the article,even though none of you astute readers noticed that. (Apparently the identification of Benson as an "author" and the listing of the book titles in distinctive type was insufficient to tip off careful and well-informed Wikipedia editors like yourselves; perhaps one or two of you may have suggestions on how to improve such descriptions.) Her books meet the notability criteria, having been reviewed and discussed in major media. In fact, Benson is a native of the UK, and both her books have been reviewed/discussed in the TLS, which even Wikipedia acknowledges as "one of the world's preeminent critical publications." (The second review appears in the October 20, 2006 issue, and is not yet directly cited online.)
Benson's two books may be only available through such obscure retailers as Amazon.com [22] [23] and Barnes & Noble [24] [25], and the relevant pages give samples of reviews and indicate the caliber of Benson's audience.
Now I recognize that article deletion is a holy and privileged activity, and that deletion of articles about women whose claims to notability don't involve performances emphasizing, flaunting, or exposing their mammaries is a virtual sacrament which shouldn't be disrupted or contested, however ridiculous or inaccurate the basis, unless the circumstances are really really unusual. But while one of England's "leading cultural critics" is apparently not, by Wikipedia editor consensus, as notable as a moderately obese middle-aged woman who films herself having sex with dogs, and the TLS is apparently by the same consensus not a "major" publication with the stature and reputation of Color Climax Anal Sex or Big Fuckin' Tits, or even Juggs, I think she deserves to be included in Wikipedia.
I now realize that the excessive literacy and cultural awareness I displayed in recognizing the name of a well-known figure in the British academic-literary world is inconsitent with the qualities required of a good Wikipedian, and fully justifies the assumptions of bad faith you have all made. I now know that in-depth knowledge of any subjects outside of pornography, Pokemon, and professional sports can only damage the Wikipedian enterprise, and I will do my best in the future to follow your lead and to contribute only with regard to subjects about which I know nothing, or next to nothing.

I've just put a lot of work into improving Human rights in pre-Saddam Iraq so that the article is not now anything like what it was when you voted to delete but allow for recreation. I don't know that it meets your objections to it (which I think concerned the whole concept of such an article), but please take another look and see what you think. Essentially, the article is recreated. I'm still not satisfied with the article, but it has roughly the proper scope and many more reliable sources. I think what I've done shows that there's too much material out there to combine this article with anything else. Spinning off "In popular culture" sections

I have noticed that you have spun off trivia and "in popular culture" sections of many articles into separate articles. While I understand that this is in good faith, as an attempt to leave the main articles free of trivial cruft, this is probably not the best way to deal with these problematic sections, as it only masks the real problems.

The problem is that useful trivia should be integrated, as explained at WP:AVTRIV; questionable trivia should be removed. At times, useful information can accumulate in these trivia sections, that should be integrated into the prose of the main article. However, such information can get buried in trivial cruft. Even worse, these separate articles are usually neglected and become dumping grounds for questionable unsourced info.

The best thing to do, in most situations, is to deal with trivia as it appears. Simply be bold and delete questionable "trivia" on sight. WP:IPC is a really good essay that explains more about the problems with IPC articles, and WP:AVTRIV gives some solid information on dealing with trivia. — Krimpet (talk/review) 00:40, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

I see you left your note on my talk page after leaving a comment on the {{cfd}}. You misjudge my motives, and you are not assuming good faith. I think the work I have done expanding the wikipedia's coverage of Guantanamo is valuable. And some other people agree. You are free to disagree. Anti-Russian sentiment

I agree that the article would benefit from not being a warzone and a lot of info is quite non-controversial and funny. IMHO the main problem with this and other anti-x and x-phobic articles is the undue weight. There are always two point of views:

• Mainstream - Obviously through centuries many people had reasons to dislike Russia (or other X) but overall it is not a great deal;
• Conspirology - The whole world (powerful hidden forces) hates Russia (X), they hypocritically accuse it in every sins, while constantly working to undermine and destroy it. Only by blind support of current leader and severing the ties with the rest of the world we can survive... (you know the mantra)

Usually the more details we put into an article the easier is to present all the point of views. With the anti-x articles it is the other way around. The more data are in the article the stronger it support the conspiratological POV. It is very difficult to present facts supporting that something is not a big deal.

I guess your suggestion is right if we reorganize the article historically rather than geographically we con show that some scares are not actual now. Alex Bakharev 12:30, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Prague Spring for FA

I know what you mean--we had similar problems with Hungarian Revolution of 1956, the only difference being that there is suddenly a LOT of information on that revolution in English (last year being the anniversary and all.) I still think it's worth trying for the Prague Spring though, even though it's a total mess now. We were considering aiming for mid- to late-August for an "official" start, which should give us plenty of time to do some research beforehand. I'm still pretty busy for the next few weeks but after that I will be able to get down to some serious reading. I can't read Czech language btw, so I will only be able to look at materials in English and perhaps Russian (as if there will be any useful Russian material out there...). K. Abraham and Onesimus of Kiev

I created this page, and many of the others I created today, out of the Holweck book referenced. That book is probably the most comprehensive listing of all saints, at least through its day. However, it is really appalling for its lack of detail, particularly for the lesser known or non-Catholic saints. Quite literally, everything that is mentioned in the book is already included in the article. I hope to expand this article, and others, from other books upon completing the entries for the current book, but think that may well be some time off, as I'm still only on page 7 of the 1050 pages of the Holweck book. Considering I have only limited access to this particular book, though, I am adding all the articles I created, including this one, to my personal list, so that I can try to focus at least some attention on them the rest of that time. Categorization fix to wildcat

Your fix to wildcat is only a temporary solution to Wikipedia's problem with categorizing fauna by location. Some people still think that the "fauna by country" categories should be used for all animals. See these two edits to Zebra Waxbill, for example: [29] [30]. You will need to develop a better solution. (I was working on this, but I stopped because of personality conflicts with one other editor and the lack of support from other people.) Hi, if you refer to the fact that I called vandalisms his edits, I already said to another user that I will not do it anymore. Recently Gryffindor made an absurd move of "Merano" to "Meran" for nationalistic reasons; his move was quickly reverted, and so I reverted all his edits in which he put the wikilink to Meran. They were a lot, and so I made them automatically. If I made a mistake, you are free to correct it, just apply the conventions (Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names)) and do not put wikilinks to redirect pages. C++Builder vs C++ Builder

According to the history comments for C++Builder and C++ Builder, you claim that the product name has a space. I find that this is not the case at all. I have C++Builder versions 1, 3, 4 and 5, and I have checked the Borland and CodeGear web sites. All of the product packaging, literature, help files and web pages all spell C++Builder without a space. Do you have any evidence to convince me not to rename the pages? Dobrý den,

chtěla jsem se zeptat odkud máte prosím plán města Terezín z roku 1869..? Snažím se zoufale sehnat nějaké historické mapy, fotografie atd, ze kterých by se dalo vyčíst něco o zeleni ve městě.. O historické podobě sadů, jejich založení atd. A toto je jediná mapa, kterou jsem našla, ve které jsou parky docela podrobně i s cestní sítí atd. Nemohl by jste ji prosím poskytnout ve větším rozlišení nebo říct alespoň zdroj pokud není vaše..?

The mysterious M

Dear Pavel, I changed the Mr. to M to reflect the French usage, with the M standing for Monsieur, which of course is the French equivalent to Mr. I thought it was best to distinguish between Madame Nhu's parents, hence "Mr. Chuong". Then I decided to change to M. Choung since this was a French police report. I'm not very good at French and I have not read the police report that Monique Demery cites, but I'm 100% certain the French police would have used the term M. rather Mr. for Chương.

I'm little idiosyncratic in this, but I do like to be culturally correct, which for an example is why I think the term "Byzantine Empire" is stupid, through I know it is the most widely used term for the Roman Empire in the Middle Ages. The term "Byzantine Empire" was invented by German nationalists to deny that Eastern Roman empire was Roman with the Holy Roman Empire instead being the real "Roman" empire. The people who lived in the Eastern Roman empire always called Romans because that is what they were, and calling the "Byzantine Empire" is robbing them of their identity, which reflects the almost irrational hatred so many historians for the medieval Roman empire, which in turn is a reflection of the way that many historians always seem to see Europe as being Western Europe. There are so many history books that profess to be histories of Europe, but which are really histories of Western Europe with Eastern Europe given rather short shift if not ignored. The message is that Western Europe is the "center" of Europe and Eastern Europe is the "periphery". There are so many problems with this characterization of European history, not of which least is these historians are taking the situation that emerged in the modern era with most of the European great powers being in Western Europe and projecting it backwards in time. The medieval Roman empire, which was centered in Anatolia and the Balkans is by its very existence a challenge to the Western European-centric view of history. In the 11th century, the wealth of the city of Constantinople alone was equal to all the wealth of France and England combined. Surely, if Europe had a "center" in the 11th century, it was there, not places like England and France which are normally portrayed as the "center" of medieval Europe. Much of the hostility by historians towards the medieval Roman empire as degenerate, declining and not really Roman at all is a way of trying to dismiss it as an important part of European civilization. The thesis that the fall of the Western Roman empire in 476 caused the "Dark Ages" only applies to Western Europe; the Eastern Roman empire went on and Roman civilization continued to flourish in the Balkans and Anatolia. At least in English language histories, there is a strong undercurrent of hostility and outright contempt for people in the Balkans as savage, treacherous, and backward, so far for these prejudiced historians the idea the Balkans was once the place where the Roman empire went on for almost thousand years after it ended in the West is rather difficult to digest. Personally, I think the article on the "Byzantine Empire" should be retitled the Roman empire, but I know this a battle I will not win, so why waste my time? But when I can win, I do try to use the culturally appropriate terms if only to try to get readers to see things differently, through sometimes this approach does get me into trouble.

I'm fine with either Mr. or M, so you want to change it, that is OK. To put it mildly, I'm not going to engage in an edit war over this, which would be absurd!
