Thanks for your reverts on vandalism. Here's the Editors'/Deletionist's Barnstar for your hard work on Wikipedia. -- Stevey7788 03:10, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

You can put it on your user page. Display it with pride. Cheers, --SqueakBox 01:32, Apr 17, 2005 (UTC)

Constance E. Cumbey[edit]

If you have a moment check out the above, which is connected and the source of a current controversy, --SqueakBox 02:11, Apr 17, 2005 (UTC)

Please do not repeat edits of your recent type to this page.

  • As far as I can see, there has been no vandalism on the page.
  • Please do not use upper case and emotive terms in edit summaries.
  • Please do not go a long way back in reverting, without giving some indication of where you are going and why.

This page is under active development, and one of those who is contributing has poor English. Labelling his edits as 'vandalism' could easily lose us a valuable contributor.

Looking at your edits, I see that you have been sing this account only for a few days. Please be aware that, while vandals certain operate on WP, for the most part they cause minor nuisance that is easily put right. Our basic principle Assume Good Faith is central.

Thanks for reverting the vandalism on my user page. I appreciate it. Cheers, BanyanTree 00:43, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Again, thank you for reverting the "delete" tag on the non-sense article about "Jerry Botzko". It seems that 68.33.104.151 and KFP is the same vandal user. Svest 20:37, Apr 27, 2005 (UTC)

Sorry for the delay in my thanks, I didn't even notice the vandalism until I decided to check for it. Thnaks for the revert. --Scimitar 19:53, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hello, I find that several anno. users are vandalising this page. Please assist me in reverting all these silly changes. Thanks. --Bhadani 16:43, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for your revert, but the anon user 24.126.17.155 (talkcontribs) dropped the section again. Also, the user seems to have gained a new identity Whiteking (talkcontribs) (Notice that the new identity comes into being 5 minutes after the last edit by 24.126.17.155 (talkcontribs)). While I am not asserting any authenticity or fallacy of the user's edits, It really hurts everyone's efforts in keeping consistency in an article when someone repeatedly drops sections without bothering to discuss it. I called for a discussion 3 times, but of no avail. I did reported vandalism, but the user's sockpuppet identity (I am assuming that, not sure) even tried to put some disparaging comments there. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that this page is being reverted just too many times in last 2 days. Thanks for your efforts in finding vandals. --Ragib 06:50, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for helping to clean up POV vandalism[edit]

Thanks for assisting in reverting the edits of POV vandal User:JoeM = Moral Clarity. Is there anything we could do to block this individual? I tend to agree that he's a sockpuppet. His first day on Wikipedia and he already seems to show a familiarity with NPOV (though no intent to abide by it) and a knowledge of WP:VIP. Hmm... Firebug 23:24, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"Impersonater Vandal"[edit]

Greetings, Chanting Fox. I was suggesting to User:Zzyzx11 just now that we change the name "Impersonater Vandal" to something like "the Doppelganger" or "the Imitator" since they're more catchy. This is, of course, quite unnecessary, but a catchy name could make a difference after all. He referred me to you, as you coined the name, and not he. Would this be a good idea? -JMBell° 01:36, 8 May 2005 (UTC) Sure, it's fine by me. --Chanting Fox 01:37, 8 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

DB lag maybe[edit]

There's been some database issues recently. Reversions may not show up right in all cases... For real time feedback, you may want to join the IRC channel where admins, developers, etc. can frequently be found. CryptoDerk 20:01, May 13, 2005 (UTC)

Ah, I just looked.. it could be a time/cache issue. If you notice, your reversion was logged in 10 minutes before the vandal's edit.. there have been some db time sync issues.. The article appears fine to me, so it could just be a cache issue on your end. When the time issues are fixed, hopefully the correct time will be fixed. CryptoDerk 20:03, May 13, 2005 (UTC)
Really, the page looks fine. This is a fairly common glitch when there are db troubles. It's happened to me before, and I know of a couple of instances where it's happened to other people. CryptoDerk 20:36, May 13, 2005 (UTC)

I personally have no idea what's wrong with him, but he seems determined to prove that "Iasson" and "Faethon" are different people. It is pretty much guaranteed that the anon is Iasson, trying to convince people that the hundreds of "public" accounts weren't his. —Xezbeth 19:49, May 14, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for the rv on my user page. The anon user was annoyed at me because I reverted the edits that he had made at Glasgow. Rovoam[edit]

Hey, I've been reverting Rovoam as I see him over the past few days, blocking, etc. I asked Petaholmes about him and he said to talk to you. I can count at least 7 decent sized ranges he's coming from. Since I haven't really been all involved in his RFAr or anything, but I think it's time to go to the foundation and start calling his ISP, etc. like has been done with prior really bad vandals. CryptoDerk 06:37, May 26, 2005 (UTC)

I've got him figured out now. He's just using open proxies, many of which I've identified. Some of these proxies move around a bit, but some are static and the others can be picked up in a range block. CryptoDerk 23:04, May 26, 2005 (UTC)
Shrug, could be. Right now he's too slow, though. When I'm using my vandal fighter I can catch him and block him in 5 seconds. Plus now I've just started protecting pages. CryptoDerk 23:21, May 26, 2005 (UTC)

WAU[edit]

Hi, Chanting Fox, I just now noticed your comment (and deletion thereof) ony my talk page history. I did not know what the source for that image was, I find that sorta hillarious! Anyway, I have some advice, which is free, but it's gonna cost you! I don't believe such a short segment counts as a copyvio, for either my low-quality Image:Wau.gif, or the high-quality and longer-duration Racoon.gif one. But I'm far from a copyrights law expert. By the way, for future reference, you can de-inline an image thusly: [[:Image:Racoon.gif]] (i.e. Image:Racoon.gif). El_C 03:11, 27 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism Count[edit]

A random thought... if one were to increment the vanadalism counter on your page, would that be a version of the Liar's Paradox... See if it was vandalism then the increment would be justified, in which case it would not be vandalism. But if it were not vanadalism, then the increment would not be justified, in which case it would be vanadalism...

== Vandalism by 131.111.8.101 ==[edit]

Hi I've been doing some detective work based on a few isolated incidents of vandalism I've seen, and I discovered a vandal who uses User:131.111.8.101 who may have been vandalizing you. I also x-posted this to User_Talk:MacGyverMagic because he's an admin who's been involved with this vandal a bit.

  • Also note Contributions of User:Darth_Vader. According to his contributions, he modified the Palpatine page to appear like Pope Benedict. (exact opposite of the above)

My suspicion is that all of these people are sockpuppets of User:Chantin'_Fox who is operating from User:131.111.8.101.

Thanks for changing back Genseiryu[edit]

Thank you Chanting Fox for reacting so quickly and realising that our text was an honest input. We are trying to make readers understand that there are two styles in Genseiryu and we are trying to name the differences between both. But the side of Genseiryu Butokukai is deleting one of those sides all the time (over and over again), so that only their side of the story comes on Wikipedia. This is of course dishonest and not neutral. We have to keep Wikipedia as neutral as possible! I think they will try it again and again and again, as they have done before (they have been using names, also on the Dutch Wikipedia, like Thoar, Setia Hati, Saiko, Zzaroc and Peter Lee). Hopefully you can help a little bit and keep an eye on this article as well...Thanks again. Regards! -- MarioR 21:39, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

How to avoid the article (Genseiryu) will be deleted[edit]

Dear Chanting Fox, we made an article about the Karatestyle Genseiryu. Other people are changing this article by deleting everything we added, you discovered this yesterday. In Holland they also did this with the result that nothing is published now and the article is blocked. They are happy about that, we are not. We kept their part of the Genseiryu history but they are deleting ours and they don't care they are losing their own (they are saying "rather NO story, then their story!"). What can we do to avoid the article is going to be completely deleted on the English Wikipedia as well??? Regards, -- Members of Genseiryu Karatedo Netherlands.

Enviroknot, Kainthescion, and all those anons[edit]

The thing I find most convincing about the sock puppet allegations is that I can detect absolutely no difference of tone. All of these edits, from all three users and just about all the anon IPs identified to date, have a single voice. It's a foul-mouthed, loser, someone who has only ever gotten his way through bullying. The thought of there being a whole clan of near-twins out there can be discounted, there just aren't that many sociopaths around with exactly the same obsessions who are likely to turn up at precisely the same time and engage in the same activities. The different IPs suggest that this is a script kiddie who has learned how to use backdoor proxies. That would also fit in with the obsessive tone. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 11:14, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Also look at what he's been up to lately on RFAR (history). Clearly this nutter has no problem obtaining new IPs. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 11:20, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

This is a minor issue, but something I'd like to fix. Since you just copyedited sifu (and I did a bit after you), would you happen to know anything about these "sources", the article seems to cite, and also the "some say that Bruce Lee" sentence as well? Or are you clueless about this as I am? Thanks. -- Natalinasmpf 17:36, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Re: vandalised noticeboard[edit]

What noticeboard? Can you give a link? There are so many, and I can't see anything wrong with the ones I've checked. Shanes 19:00, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Can you please provide a link to the page? I can't find anything wrong with Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard. Shanes 19:10, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I can't find a problem, either. Joyous 19:11, Jun 24, 2005 (UTC)

Then there's a BIG problem. When I use that link, I can clearly see the vandalism. The problem is that it doesn't seem to show up on the history. --Chanting Fox 19:13, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I accessed the page from the link at Category:Wikipedia administrators, and I still can't see a problem. What are you seeing? Back in December, I experienced seeing weird vandalism on the VfD page that no one else could see, and which didn't show up in the history. Joyous 19:20, Jun 24, 2005 (UTC)

Still not seeing a problem. "TOC" is just the command for the "table of contents." Joyous 19:34, Jun 24, 2005 (UTC)

Well, REMOVING that line seems to get rid of the vandalism... I'm going to try to get rid of that line and see what effect it has... I'll replace it immedietely if something goes wrong. --Chanting Fox 19:35, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • I am absolutely floored. Very clever of you to try the TOC command; that never would have occurred to me. Probably want to mention this somewhere where more people can see it and be aware of the...I dunno...would it be considered a bug? Joyous 19:48, Jun 24, 2005 (UTC)
  • What browser are you using? I'm on a Mac using Safari, and couldn't see it logged in or out. Also tried IE (blech) logged out, and didn't see it. Joyous 19:51, Jun 24, 2005 (UTC)
  • I believe you should relate a little account of this episode at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical), so someone of a tech frame of mind might be aware of it. Joyous 19:58, Jun 24, 2005 (UTC)
As I've said at the Pump, I'll think you'll find the vandalism was in Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Header and had been reverted earlier in the day. The reason that you were seeing it when others weren't may be cache-related, but I'm not entirely sure. I think __TOC__ is probably a red herring; when you edited WP:AN, that forced the out-of-date cache to reload and the vandalism (long gone from the database) stopped appearing. Does that make sense? --rbrwr± 21:52, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)
...yes, there's a lot of caching going on behind the scenes in the Wikimedia servers. See Cache strategy, Squid, Memcached. I suspect memcached to be the culprit, as you were seeing the problem when logged in, but I'm not entirely sure. --rbrwr± 08:22, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Uh, do you know what you are doing?[edit]

Why did you revert my edits on User:Mel_Etitis/JTF claiming it was vandalism? How is it vandalism? What do you know about the JTF? Please be careful before reverting and calling something vandalism. 168.209.98.35 4 July 2005 04:36 (UTC)

While you are reverting for "vandalism", why not finish where you left off in User:/Mel_Etitis/JTF[edit]

Seeing how you consider my NPOV edits User:Mel_Etitis/JTF&diff=18109860&oldid=18109796 to be *cough* vandalism, perhaps you can find many more examples of my vandalism in the JTF article? Maybe you can also prove that my claiming that JTF spends entire programs insulting blacks, arabs and mexicans is also vandalism? Or, you can also claim that JTF is, in fact, a civil rights organization and my removal of such a phrase is also vandalism?

Come on, don't be lazy. If my edit that you reverted was vandalism then you have left a heck of a lot of vandalism by me sneak past you.

And seeing how you are the only one who can spot this as vandalism, you should work twice as hard to make up for all of those incompetent admins out there who fail to see what you see!

Good luck! Fishpaste 4 July 2005 05:12 (UTC) (aka: 168.209.98.35)

Self-nom for administration[edit]

Hi! Nothing personal, and for the most part I think you do a good job reverting vandalism, but you're a little bit too quick on the trigger for me. Also, (although I think your actions were right), your response to the newbie was a little bit harsh. I have little doubt I would support in a month or two, though. --Scimitar 4 July 2005 22:37 (UTC)

You feel calling a NPOV edit to a temporary article page, which we were busy editing to replace an existing, protected, page an act of vandalism was right? Is that vandalism in your view? I will keep an eye out on RfA and will oppose any nomination for you as well. Fishpaste 5 July 2005 07:25 (UTC)

Thank you[edit]

Thank you for reverting that vandalism to my user page.

Good catch[edit]

Good catch on the Catholic page, removing that spurious link; quick, too. Good job. KHM03 5 July 2005 17:23 (UTC)

Great job![edit]

Dear Chanting Fox,

You've done a really great job doing vandalism reverts on Wikipedia. RC patroling can be a really tiring and tedious job, and you were faithfully laboring along for so long without a rollback feature. I know that some of your reverts have been too quick and sometimes ignorant, but overall you have done such a great job here.

I hereby award you the Working Man's Barnstar, as you have done laborious work since you were a newbie. An Editor's Barnstar just shows that you have been doing reverts, but I am giving you this barnstar because you have been our faithful working man around here. Thank you very much. — Stevey7788 (talk) 00:53, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My user page[edit]

A belated thank you for reverting vandalism to my user page. I only just now realized that it had been vandalized back earlier this month. --Briangotts 20:37, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

Where is the do I post my help/vandalism request that you deleted from the Vandalism page.

The person stalking me, might fall under the category of Vandalism. Thank you LaLa1 01:56, 27 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Problem User LaLa / LaLa1[edit]

Just to clarify, what LaLa has characterised as stalking and vandalism amounts to my having identified four articles he started as unambiguous copyvios. These were tagged as such, but LaLa repeatedly removed the Copvio tags from the articles, as well as warnings from myself and others from his talk page. Having already been in conflict with him about a misguided categorization scheme (other users, including Bearcat, JamesTeterenko, and Pmanderson — who nom'd it for Cfd — also had a problem here), I invited another admin, Jayjg, to examine the situation. He concurred that they were copyvios and warned LaLa against removing the notices. After LaLa chose to ignore this, Jayjg listed the problem at WP:AN/I, and protected the pages in question. Upon reviewing the situation, a third admin, Snowspinner, chose to block LaLa indefinitely. I should point out that I had even requested that Snowspinner reduce the block to a max of 24 hours as a cooling down period. 03:51, 27 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Carlo Levi[edit]

Why did you revert the edit refering to Carlo Levi's association with communism? 69.222.254.7 03:04, 3 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Your barnstar[edit]

Would you like to post your new barnstar on your user page? I'd like to see two of them shining on your page. :) — Stevey7788 (talk) 22:52, 4 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry...[edit]

I'm sorry I vandalized the Michael Moore page regarding the 4 big macs. I won't do it again. Keep up the good work. -Vinceaso

Asking for trouble[edit]

In response to your post, the problem is that Wikipedia isn't even trying to be tough. It makes it patently obvious that it's going to be soft so there's no reason not to cause trouble. Wikpedia behaves like the weakest sort of teacher who asks for trouble and gets it, or even like a child that invites taunting and bullying. Osomec 20:18, 7 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
