Untitled[edit]

Arriving via Random Page, I have no clue about Ethiopian monarchies, but I do know that the Cheiftian sections are horrendous. The bullet style is pretty odd, giving every two words equal listing. I'm also wary of lists period. --Yoshi348 16:23, May 19, 2005 (UTC)

I've tried to clean this up some, but this page is fraught with a number of difficulties:
First, the original information comes from an anon editor who failed to provide sources for this information. I've tried to verify what I can find, but I had to lump several lists into their own section as "unidentified"; the list under "Bosha or Garo" may be best put there.
This doesn't mean that this unverified information is wrong, but leads to the second problem -- that there were a number of small kingdoms in Ethiopia to the south of the Abay River & west of Shewa that Wikipedia does not yet have much material about. In other words, just because it's unverified doesn't mean it's not true.
Thirdly, there were also some small kingdoms or sultanates east of the Awash River that played a role in Ethiopian history before vanishing under the Oromo migrations. I have tried to at least add a link to represent these.
Fourthly, there were a number of local dynasties during the time of Imperial Ethiopia that are noteable enough for inclusion -- which I have added. On the other hand, the original contributor added some categories which would contain at most one name. In Ethiopian honorifics, negus or "king" was not the ultimate rank as is the case with the English equivalent, but the rank immediately under negus negust or Emperor, & was not always inheritable. I have removed these examples.
In short, this article needs more work, & some of its material may end up being deleted for being spurious; this not a project for the faint-hearted. -- llywrch 20:07, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Shewa or Shoa?[edit]

Isn't Shoa the commonly used form in English? - (Aidan Work 06:17, 2 December 2005 (UTC))[reply]

Shewa & Shoa are both accepted spellings. Someone preferred "Shewa", I guess to make a clear difference from Shoa, another name for the Holocaust. -- llywrch 05:01, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Expansion[edit]

A general run-down of where Kingdoms tended to be, and what areas were conquered when, as well as trends of semi-sovereignty vs. nearly-direct control should be incorporated into the article. Also, this page is ridiculously hard to find. I've been working extensively (and exclusively, save for some minor edits) on Ethiopia articles for the past 4-6 months, and I've only just now seen this page, when it should be more prominent (and more developed. This may in fact be a reason for its undeveloped state, so we should start trying to find ways to link to it from other pages.

Kingdom of Zion[edit]

Does anyone have any information on the Kingdom of Zion noted in this article? I have done several Google searches for it and can't find any information on it, or even if it exists Ofkearney (talk) 11:28, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
