Wow! Fantastic story! And yet no talk page until it got the featured tag... congrats guys/girls :-) - Ta bu shi da yu 06:22, 29 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Cheesy photo, though. If only we knew someone on Wikipedia with a 6.9. Lucky?

I don't get it. That photo is classy, not cheesy. --timc | Talk 12:27, 30 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Wording needs fixed[edit]

Hey! Really neat article, but one bit I can't fix: "Daimler-Benz agreed in turn, and Yates was given a US-spec 6.9 to drive from Manhattan all the race track for a full 40 laps or just over 100 miles (160 km)." It doesn't really make sense, and there's not enough info there to make it make sense either.

Was it driven from Manhattan to Atlanta (mentioned later) then around a race track?

  • Yup. Quite a story, too. Talk about fun!! :^) - Lucky 6.9 04:00, 31 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Specifications subpage[edit]

I'd like to recommend moving Mercedes-Benz 6.9 Specifications to /Specifications. Any ideas? If I don't hear back in a few days, I'll probably just move it myself. --Milkmandan 06:14, 2005 Feb 25 (UTC)

Diesel or unleaded?[edit]

What fuel did this engine take? Binarypower 14:58, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The 6.9 was a gasoline engine. If it was a diesel, there would be a "D" designation. In the late 1970s, the only diesel cars MB sold in US were the 240D, 300D, and 300SD (turbo diesel). I don't have a reference to back this up. Just my recollection from working as an MB mechanic in NYC from 1977-1980. Kazbert (talk) 17:27, 21 August 2013 (UTC)kazbert[reply]

Transmission Gear Ratios[edit]

Does anyone know the transmission's gear ratios? I think they should be added to the specifications section at the bottom of the article. 203.122.96.53 (talk) 14:18, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It has a three speed auto transmission:

1st ratio 2.31 2nd ratio 1.46 3rd ratio 1.00

Final drive ratio 2.65

reverse ratio 1.84

1973 Mercedes Benz 450 SEL[edit]

The problem I have on this car is wasted so much, as in so much gas. Full tank only last 100 miles. Why is it so? Anyone who can able to help me out on this & what, where shop should I take it to. Some shop who can fix it & don't rip me off. Any advice who have the same car as mine. Thank you —Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.74.216.98 (talk) 23:43, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In popular culture? or at least that one movie...[edit]

Somebody made a short film in the 1970s, basically they put a movie camera on the front of their 6.9 and drove around Paris at high speeds around dawn. One of the things that stands out in the film is how quiet the streets were, because it was an unannounced event. What was the name of this movie? It ought to be mentioned in the article. (Some people incorrectly attribute the car as being a Ferrari.) --208.65.188.23 (talk) 01:02, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Power Output U.S. vs World[edit]

250 vs 286 bhp due to to "emissions"?? Not rather to the lousy american fuel @ 88 octane (vs 98 in Germany (Back then, today 102))? --212.23.103.90 (talk) 20:09, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion of possible redirect[edit]

This article was recently merged and redirected to Mercedes-Benz W116. I have reverted the merge. There are 3+ reliable sources referenced here which discuss the 6.9 specifically and in depth, and thus establish notability for the model to have a separate article. Dialectric (talk) 20:38, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Of course the 6.9 is important. It's a car I aspire to one day own. Nonetheless, it is but a single variant of the W116 series - one could easily find any number of resources which discuss any specific W116 variant, but it doesn't warrant standalone articles for the 300SD, 450SE, or whatever. Coincidentally, I believe that the content of this page will be seen by many more people if it is added to the W116 page rather than existing as a standalone. Having uploaded a nice rear view of a 6.9 I don't want it to languish within a wee appendix article such as this one, you know.  Mr.choppers | ✎  06:30, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I still oppose the merge. This was a featured article (if in 2004), has a significant amount of content for a car model article, and is linked to from articles on two well known movies which feature the car, so I think the characterization of this as an appendix article is inaccurate. Whether the W116 page is viewed more often than this one is pure speculation, and not a strong reason for a merge. As the article is sourced, of sufficient non-stub length, and not an orphan, I see no wikipedia policy-related justification for the merge.Dialectric (talk) 12:11, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

==B-Class 14 December 2006==

I rated this article as B-Class because it almost completely lack references (there are a few) and the section titles sound like a promotional review, not an encyclopedic tone. Also it could use a development section (if references can be found) and "The 6.9 today" is a bit off topic (sounds like buyer information).
