I've been neglecting my talk page for awhile, so let's rearrange it and be sure to include everything that everybody's complained or raved about:

Harsh Criticism[edit]

Edit on Chinese Civil War[edit]

Please take a look at Chinese family name. It's inpolite and unconventional to refer to people by their given names in a formal context. --Jiang 03:07, 8 Mar 2004 (UTC)

This was back when I was a wily new Wikipedia user who didn't really know any better. I apparently stepped on some toes. Apologies! neckro

Jurassic Park[edit]

Hey, It's Wolfj. Did you delete an article section on "Jurassic Park?" Why? That was a very interesting tidbit of info. No one knew that, and know people do! Until you deleted it! -Wolfj (11 Dec)

Yes, I did delete it. It was an IP-user edit with no summary, it was completely out of place on the page, and it didn't really say anything that wasn't already present in the article, so I removed it. neckro 19:33, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Puppy Album Write-ups[edit]

It was high time someone did them, and it looks like you've done a great job. Kudos and much thanks. :) -Hn 06:23, 2 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Image question[edit]

You uploaded a picture on commons of DNA labels, which is based on my DNA labels image. In the image box, you said it had been reconstructed, but besides different resolutions, I cannot tell how they are different. Did you change anything else? →Raul654 18:53, Mar 6, 2005 (UTC)

Nothing was changed; it was just redone for higher resolution and so it could be saved in a lossless format (PNG). neckro 07:27, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)

afd Cleanse Fold and Manipulate[edit]

I nominated Cleanse Fold and Manipulate for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cleanse Fold and Manipulate. Since you created it, I'm sure you'll wish to say why it should be kept, and vote to keep it. My reasons for the nomination are there. --rob 08:45, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image:DNA-labels.png[edit]

In the cytosine/guanine pairing, you show the two O atoms bonding as well as the two NH2 groups bonding. Other references both in the main DNA article and elsewhere on the Web show the bonding as the O and NH2 groups cross bonding - ie one of the bases needs to be reflected to give the correct pairing. --PeterJeremy 12:59, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PS - I fixed this in August 2006, and recently recently replaced that with an svg image. I replaced all instances of it ... It's still on wikimedia commons, though. There's a note on it that mentions the problem. -Madeleine 19:35, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:StarWarsBriefing.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:StarWarsBriefing.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 05:20, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:ThrobbingGristle1978.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:ThrobbingGristle1978.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 12:53, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Halftone_separations.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Halftone_separations.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 10:16, 4 October 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaK 10:16, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

⚠

Thanks for uploading Image:Chemlab-BurnOutAlbumCover.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Fair use rationale for Image:IndustrialRecords.png[edit]

AfD nomination of Trevor Brown[edit]

I have nominated Trevor Brown, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Trevor Brown. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

File permission problem with File:FlamingChalice.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:FlamingChalice.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 10:41, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Trevor Brown (artist) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
