==history==

emmen is the biggest community in drenthe, nobody knows who founded it, the dolmens (hunnebedden) around emmen proof that emmen excits a long time back in the middle ages emmen was a very small town, when napoleon conqeur it, he banned the 'stadsrechten'(city rights) witch mean that little town's (like emmen)would never be regonized as a city,after napoleon the question of 'turf' begin to grow, but only drenthe contained lots of lots 'turf' but it was a long way from north-holland (where the qeustion and elaboration of 'turf'was the biggest) and they couldn't force the labors to walk a 1000 mile's up and down for only some 'turf' so they decided to build emmen bigger so the labors didn't have to walk that far, in that time emmen grow a lot bigger but not bigger than a medium-sized town, after the second worldwar emmen growth a lot bigger it became as big as a city, it became the biggest community of drenthe but because the 'stadsrechten'(city rights) where banned, emmen stayd a town, but the community was regnosides, today the day emmen is probaly the biggest town, emmen is almost as big as assen, whitch is the capital of drenthe. (forgive me my spelling i'm dutch and i live in emmen)
