One of the hazards[edit]

Often the books and theories of the 19th century and before are classics of prose and treasures of scholarship, but one of the hazards of working from the 1911 Britannica and Google Books is that from time to time you encounter material that is badly out of date. You just have to know which is which. Here the theory of the origin of the Aeolians and the Aeolic dialect(s) is just such a case. There were no Aeolic speakers on the plains of central Europe waiting to wave in on Greece. I would immediately tend to this myself but right now I am busy on Ionian and other articles. I thought I would give a heads up on it for when I or someone DO get to it.Dave (talk) 20:29, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reflexes of the labiovelar consonants[edit]

According to this article, the labiovelars were turned into plain labials everywhere, yet this source lists kis as an Thessalian (Aeolic) variant of Attic tis. This article further states that the other dialects followed the same development as the Attic dialect, yet according to Wikipedia's own article, Ionic k corresponds to Attic p.
