" today that figure is probably 99 percent" - can we get verification? this looks bad --Smooth Henry 09:42, Feb 13, 2005 (UTC)

I changed the word "south" to "east" in the first paragraph since the term "east of the river" is commonly used to refer to that side of the city. By the way, I just looked at the city's data from the 2000 Census regarding the "99 percent" statistic. The heart of downtown historic Anacostia is Good Hope Road and Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue (census tract 75.03). Of 2,515 residents in this tract, 2,445 were African American in 2000 which is about 97%. There were 28 whites and single digit numbers of other races. --jd4508 17 Feb, 2005

And Now, Anacostia[edit]

The link to And Now, Anacostia should be removed.

That blog is a shill for real estate developer Jones Lang LaSalle, and the blog's owner, David Garber, has an agenda to push with regard to development in Anacostia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lastort (talkcontribs) 21:36, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It seems sneaky to substitute the link in the way you tried. However, we have a guidelines on external links, helping us to decide what to include. This one is marginal, per our guidelines and can be removed. --Aude (talk) 21:42, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, I should not have redirected the link to Jones Lang LaSalle. Deleting the link is a better way to handle it. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lastort (talkcontribs)

Not a problem. Sorry that I misunderstood what you wanted to do there. If you like to, please feel free to improve the article in any other way you think is needed. I think it needs a bit of work. --Aude (talk) 22:02, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi- Oh man.. I'm sorry somebody said that about the blog. It has absolutely nothing to do with any company, and its sole purpose is to show Anacostia in a non-biased, but good light. I would appreciate it if you would allow the link to go back so that people interested in the neighborhood can be directed there. It is already an underserved neighborhood. The above person was disgruntled because I would not write in support of a certain issue--but since it is a non-biased site I didn't want to make it political. It would be nice if it could be linked. Thank you. -DG-rad —Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.115.148.92 (talk) 18:06, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you read through the site (www.anacostianow.blogspot.com) you will see that it is mostly about public meetings, gallery shows, and local news and projects about the neighborhood. It is unfortunate that a contingency of people are trying to do away with it--but the vast majority of people that read it really appreciate its content and use it as a way of learning about the neighborhood. Thank you.  :) -DG-rad —Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.115.148.92 (talk) 18:12, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SO, is it okay if I put the link back up? thanks! DG-rad —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.178.237.59 (talk) 06:21, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject class rating[edit]

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot 15:03, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tourism section[edit]

In the Tourism section can you please take away the section on the environmental center? It is on Kingman Island, which, while on the Anacostia River, is absolutely nowhere near the Anacostia neighborhood. What you Should be mentioning in TOurism is Cedar Hill, Anacostia's major tourist attraction and historic estate of Frederick Douglass.

Also, it should be mentioned that Big Chair Coffee is a main (and new) neighborhood gathering spot at 2122 MLK Avenue.72.83.197.140 (talk) 02:53, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Move to unique name[edit]

I realize (now, if not before) that the name "Anacostia" was unique. I don't like the article losing it's connection as a neighborhood of Washington DC. It is not a town or city by itself, nor a suburb of Maryland or Virginia. Leaving it the way it was made that clear. The new way loses that connection in the reader's mind - he has to read the article to find out otherwise. I don't think this is desirable. Student7 (talk) 12:20, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Great Depression[edit]

This section is poorly written and lacks citation. I realize that no one has posted on here since '10, but I'm going to fix it if nobody cares. Subplanar (talk) 21:56, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

To add to article[edit]

Basic information to add to this article: the size/area (in square miles) of this neighborhood. How could a supposedly encyclopedic article have been written and this left out? 76.190.213.189 (talk) 22:41, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also to add: the average income for residents of this neighborhood. 76.190.213.189 (talk) 22:44, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
