This is a category of commissioned officers of the Continental Army, the national army of the United States during the American Revolutionary War. Few articles belong in this root category. Instead, officers are sub-categorized by the state in whose regiments they served. Those officers for whom this does not apply, or who served from multiple states, are categorized in this root category.

Officers who served in state militias rather than the Continental Army are instead listed in the category Category:American militiamen in the American Revolution. If an officer served in both the Continental Army and the militia, he should be listed in both categories, unless his militia unit was adopted by the Continental Army, in which case he is categorized in the Continental Army categories.
