Does anybody have a picture source for Brit WWII-aircraft. We're featuring this on the main page in DYK, and if it really is so ugly, we'd love to have a pic... :)

Infamous folding wings[edit]

Why exactlly is the plane infamous for the way its wings are folded? This should be exapnded upon i should think.--EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 20:48, 5 February 2009 (UTC

Dificult to explain clearly, I'm afraid. Each wing was in two sections: the inboard trailing edge and flap was folded spanwise so that it lay on top of the main section of the wing, which then folded back. A picture would explain much better.TheLongTone (talk) 14:59, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The line drawing in the specifications section shows a folded Barracuda - and shows just how messy it liiks - not sure I would call it "infamous" though.Nigel Ish (talk) 15:04, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Talk:Fairey Barracuda/Comments Never experienced hydraulic leaks in the Mk III in 815 squadron 1945. Dive brake operation had such a violent and dangerous reaction, when either deployed or released, it made the aircraft a difficult dive bomber. The cruising speed of 135 knots was slow. Power generation at full boost plus RATO was only just sufficient to lift the unloaded aircraft off the deck, then sink to sea level, before gaining full flying speed. Never heard of the braking propeller with reverse pitch. Every engine upgrade was matched with an increase in gadgets and weight, thus one cancelled the effect of the other.
