Cleanup request[edit]

Boy oh boy, what a lengthy and confusing article. Someone who has neither read the book nor seen any of the films (me) can't make head or tail of it, although several scenes are referred to over and over again. And could you please stick to the present tense? All the best, <KF> 18:22, 23 November 2005

While whomever is cleaning up, is it thematic / appropriate to have a religious (sins) take on Veruca's behaviour? She's a stereotype of a spoiled brat... this does not mean we need the biblical lesson in however many of the "7 deadly sins" that she represents.

Band doesn't get the main page?[edit]

The popular progressive rock band doesn't get the main "Veruca_Salt" page, but a bit part character in a rold darl book does? I mean she comes up three short times, in the book, the movie and the remake of the movie... but the band has been around consitantly for over a decade. Shouldn't it be summat like the girl gets "Veruca_Salt_(fiction)" and the band gets "Veruca Salt". I know the band name was inspired by this character, but what there are three different versions of her (book and movies) that you probably see once every decade, but you can hear the songs tens of times a year (radio, department store music, cds, random encounters) or thousands of times a year (if you are a Veruca Salt fan and have one of their many cds). And I would think that 95 percent of people that put wiki/"Veruca_Salt" into their top bar will be looking for the band, not for one of the six children that played a part in one of rold darls stories! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by JayKeaton (talkcontribs) . (If I really wanted to hide who I was I would have gone to the public library to post this, but thanks anyway :@)

Wow, that really cheeses you off, huh? I think it could be argued either way. The fact that the band was named for the character is strong support for the character getting the main page. However, as you say, the likelyhood of searchers going for the band over the character, while exaggerated at 95%, is indeed high. The most reasonable solution might be to make Veruca Salt a disambiguation page. However, since doing so provides no improvement for people looking for the band, and makes it harder for people looking for the character, the status quo is also appealing. I think that the character gets the main page because the band is named after the character. Although, maybe, just to be fair, maybe the main page could be a disambiguation page, and then neither of them would get the main page.

I know this subject hasn't been visited in a while, but I'm bored so brace yourselves for my two cents. I had forgotten the band even existed - wikipedia says they are still together but I haven't heard them on the radio for at least 10 years (I doubt that anyone over the age of 40 would have even heard of them - except maybe their parents). They named themselves after the character - a household name thanks to the book and the 1971 movie. And if you want to describe her as a "bit part charater in a rold darl book" (you could at least bother to spell EITHER his first or last name correctly) then you have to accept that everything that follows will be regarded with the contempt it deserves. Get over it.--Grinning Idiot 04:33, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

While "Rold Darl" indeed is very bad, I have to agree with the OP. If you're interested in the book or movies, you search for the title of those. Veruca Salt is a band, not a song from a band or a record from a band. "Veruca Salt" is just a character, not a book or a movie, and not even a main character. I think a band should trump a bit character from a book/movie. It's just common sense. 193.91.181.142 (talk) 03:46, 6 April 2008 (UTC) (Nick)[reply]

Characters' names[edit]

The article says "Veruca Salt probably has the strangest name, as usually only the characters' surnames, such as those of Charlie Bucket and Mike Teavee, are strange". This isn't true - Charlie's name is "Chuck Bucket". That's gotta take the cookie. --Grinning Idiot 05:00, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of Veruca in the novel[edit]

Can someone provide a picture of Veruca from the original novel? --User:Angie Y.

Lyrics[edit]

Who keeps adding the complete lyrics to the 2005 song? I thought it is not legal to post the entire song lyrics.- JustPhil 18:36, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll remove them right awway. --User:Angie Y.

Sorry, I should have read the regulations; I did not know that posting the full lyrics was illegal. Apologies -

Picture from 1971 film[edit]

Is it just me, or is the picture from the 1971 film really dark. I can hardly see Veruca's face. --Rachel Cakes 04:04, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Veruca's name in Japanese[edit]

What is Veruca's name in Nihongo? Who provides her dub voice? --User:Angie Y.

I'll kindly answer your question (although you can find it on the Japanese page of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.) It's ベルーカ・ソルト(pronunced: Beruka Soruto) and I don't know who provides the dub voice. Hope this helps! Oslogirl5 01:32, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ridiculous Trivia[edit]

*Similar spoiled girls followed her, in a sort of legacy. Princess Morbucks, Elisabeth Delmas, and Mindy are three examples. But no cartoon character is more known to be a spoiled brat than Angelica Pickles, who's also spoiled (and rarely disciplined) by her father, Drew. Several spoiled boys followed her as well, like Remy Buxaplenty and Richie Rich.

I removed this, It only mentioned Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon characters and I fail to see any “legacy” to Veruca Salt in these characters, and the rather untrue part about Angelica Pickles. --FlareNUKE 08:17, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to have sneaked its way back in. 138.69.160.1 19:45, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The infoboxes are a great touch! All we need now is better pictures. --User:Angie Y.

Restoration of book infobox and information[edit]

Book Illustration[edit]

Does anyone know where an illustration of this character can be found from Quention Blake's drawing of the novel? It should be added... JackOfHearts 00:42, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I found one months ago, but it was deleted. Angie Y. 02:43, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I found some, but I wouldn't know what to categorize them as when uploading them to wikipedia: Augustus Gloop, Violet Beauregarde, Veruca Salt, Mike Teavee, and Charlie Bucket. JackOfHearts 22:51, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

acting[edit]

i am acting as Veruca in a play. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.13.141.103 (talk) 00:30, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article length[edit]

Added template to main page, as this article is too long, especially the introduction. Most of the article content consists of rambling in-universe cruft and speculation, which can easily be trimmed without losing the gist of the article. Also, are three infoboxes for one character really necessary? --Beemer69 09:58, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, because there are THREE different versions of the same character. Angie Y. (talk) 19:12, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Plot hole[edit]

  • A plot hole in the 1971 movie shows Veruca's hand covered with chocolate when she breaks open the Pumpkin Candy shell-in the next scene her hand is clean! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.53.145.164 (talk) 15:45, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Coincidence[edit]

  • Reportably by coincidence in both the 1971 and 2005 movie versions Verucua and Violet dislike each another-although the actress who played the parts actually became good friends —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.53.145.128 (talk) 16:09, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Plays[edit]

I've removed the Play section as unsourced original research. The editor responsible for this section continues to expand upon it, and the nature of the commentary indicates its unlikely to ever be sourced. If that should change, that is, if a reliable source publishes a review or analysis of this character as portrayed in plays, then I'll gladly see this section developed. Can pictures of Veruca from the various versions be added? Angie Y. (talk) 01:38, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merge[edit]

This article has no sources. The character can easily be boiled down to a short paragraph. There's no reason for a separate article - especially as this character has not been the subject of any significant article or academic work. Rklawton (talk) 15:24, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There are no sources, therefore there is absolutely nothing to merge. This is nothing but a lot of OR and fan-cruft. Rklawton (talk) 00:03, 29 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
it seems like a {{mergefrom}} tag should have been placed on the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory article. none of the information from this article was placed in that article. indeed, the article cites no sources, but unsourced information should be challenged before removal, perhaps by use of the {{cn}} tag. there is no reason the hatnote is insufficient for disambiguation between the character and the band. for these reasons, i restored the article about the character. please use the cn tag for any information that is dubious, and it can likely be sourced. Also, please refer to wikipedia:merging for the correct way to merge pages, and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages) for correct construction of disambiguation pages. Badmachine (talk) 00:13, 29 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Already plenty of unsourced stuff about veruca salt in the target article; nothing needs to be merged. Just redirect it.Bali ultimate (talk) 05:57, 29 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Does anyone object to the notion of the redirect suggested by Bali Ultimate? --Nuujinn (talk) 22:07, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
yes. Bali ultimate seems to indicate that nothing from this article needs to be integrated into the target article. Badmachine (talk) 00:28, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Can you move the relevant sections that you feel need to be integrated? --Nuujinn (talk) 00:51, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Can anyone else provide feedback as to what information can be source and moved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? My inclination given any particular guidance would be to enable the redirect per Bali ultimate's suggestion. --Nuujinn (talk) 22:13, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
